I have to put this down somewhere....So here is my next Blog Fannation!

I have a particular bone to pick with the sports announcers of the world.  The majority of you (at least the play by play individuals) were trained for writing or broadcasting at some kind of higher learning institute....At least that's what I'm assuming.  But it appears that many, if not all of you, have actually forgotten exactly when the word "within" is to be used.  Let's look at the definition of the word "within"

"in or into the interior"

They also list the word "inside" as a synonym....

So let's jump to yesterday's Bears/Seahawks contest.  Late in the game, the Bears kick a field goal to bring it to a 7 point game.  But Fox's Matt Vers....something (the play-by-play for fox's Z broadcast team) announces that the Bears are now "within" a touchdown and extra point of the seahawks.  Ok, so let's apply our newly acquired knowledge of the definition of "within".  What Matt V (we'll just stick with that name since his last name is impossible to pronounce).  The touchdown and extra point as we all know counts for 7 total points.  So we are assuming that the bears are somewhere "inside" that 7 point deficit?  If the bears were down by 6, then the answer is yes, they would be "within" a touchdown and extra point.  If the bears were down by 3 then again, the answer would be yes...But the bears were down by EXACTLY 7 points.  They weren't "within" 7 points, they were EXACTLY 7 points.

I know it may not be much, but let's try to keep the english language from completely digressing into simply clicks and whistles.  It's bad enough that we have to listen to Randy Moss' postgame speech yesterday when he said that the reporter would have to "AXE" coach Bellichik a certain question...I'm sorry Randy, how do we "Axe" a question?
