I recently read an article about the quality of quarterbacks in the NFL this season.  It seems as like outside of Pittsburgh, New England, Indianapolis, Dallas, and of course Green Bay, there isn't a quality QB to be found.  At first thought I agreed with the article.  I am a 49ers fan, and we are definitly having problems with our quarterback position.  Then I started thinking about the situation of each team.  For instance, David Garrad in Jacksonville isn't a stellar QB.  The question is, does he really need to be?  There are quarterbacks who can win you the game or lose you the game, and somewhere in the middle is Garrad who performs exactly like he should for his offense.  He plays mistake free, sustain a drive, and come away with some points, style of football.  Jeff Garcia is the same way in Tampa.  In fact there are several teams with this type of QB.  I don't think any of these QB's are bad.

What about the other quarterbacks though.  Are they really bad.  I believe they are a product of the offense.  Alex Smith isn't a bad QB.  He lacks confidence in his offense.  Loss of confidence is the worse thing that can happen to a QB.  The plays chosen for him to run simply don't cut it in the NFL.  The same can be said for the Ravens, Jets, and even the Bears.  So let's not place all the blame on the QB's.  In Atlanta Joey Harrington looks bad, because his wideouts can not catch the ball.  I think the problem lies in the past.  We are use to seeing teams that center around really good QB's, like Montana, Young, Elway, Aikman, and Marino.  We have been  spoiled.  I don't think it's fair to blast the quarterbacks in the NFL.
