The NBA once again proved they know how to throw an entertaining party for their fans no matter what age , sex , or race . The skills , 3 point , and slam dunk contest ending with the home town favorite Blake (Hang Time) Griffin winning the slam dunk contest by jumping over a car , was fun , exciting , and very entertaining . These events that lead up to the Allstar game on Sunday gives the fans something to talk about from generation to generation year in and year out . Who will ever forget Larry Bird the year he won the 3 point contest making his last shot then walking off the court with his hand held high and 1 finger pointing up signaling himself the winner or Michael Jordan flying in from the free throw line for a slam winning dunk ala DR J . This is stuff legends are made of that NBA fans will never forget . I couldn't tell you who won the Homerun derby in baseball's annual Allstar gala last year or who won the punt , kick , or throw contest in the NFL's Pro bowl gala , or who won the hockey shoot-out in their Allstar event . I say all that to say this Major league baseball , NFL football , and the National hockey league should take notes on how to put on a fan-tas-tic Allstar gala that kids as well as adults can enjoy . NBA fans will never forget the 2011 Allstar show in LA when the Crenshaw choir came out on the floor and sang I believe I can fly , then a 2011 Kia Optima drives on the floor near a basket and Blake Griffin takes off leaping over the Kia for a two hand slam dunk . That moment along and with all the other competitions and competitors involved last night was entertainment and FANTASTIC !
