OK, Here's the deal. I'm female. I love, love, love the NFL. I'm a diehard Patriots Fan but I love to watch any NFL game. I'll even watch the J-E-T-S! JETS JETS JETS ! play the Dolphins if thats the only game on (oh my GOD ! thank you DirectTV for Sunday Ticket!) ! I got Direct TV just for Sunday Ticket and for the NFL Network channel. Sad but true, NFL 24/7 is the catch phrase.
You see, I was a Pats fan when they were called the "Patsies" and we couldn't win a game for anything. I went and saw Steve Grogan and Craig James and Andre Tippet at Shaefer/Sullivan/FoxboroStadium whatevah you want to call it. I remember the Daryl Stingley hit in the Raider game, I went to the Pats AFC playoff game against the J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets.I remember the whole country calling us the "Patsies. I remember the "Cinderalla name tag. I still have my "Squish the Fish" T-Shirt.
We got our collective butts kicked by the Super Bowl Shuffle Bears. I remember Refrigerator Perry at 300+ pounds RUNNING in a TD to totally WHOMP our a$ $ $ es. I worked for Delta Airlines at the time and 8 of us flew non rev to New Orleans then, left the game at half time to go to O'Briens and 4 of us ended up suspended because we couldnt get a non rev flight back that night and couldnt work the next day. Why you may ask ? Because so many pats fans went home THAT night instead of the NEXT day. 4 of us had to fly from New Orleans to LOS ANGELES to La Guardia and then to Boston. The rest of us drove to Houston and flew to La Guardia - then Islip NY- Then Logan. Let me tell you, that trip sucks with an O'Brien Hurricane Hangover.
I have my Skin the Cats shirt from a few years ago, and I have my "The Colts are Dolts" shirt from this millenium.
But again, I digress, this is about the stadium right? No? eh ? OK. Just my memories of Foxboro or "Foxborough" in general.
"Memories, like the corners of my mind."....I saw Paul McCartney, U2 sigh... Bono... sigh...., Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, The Police and most importantly, The Monsters of Rock Tour that had Dokken, Metallica, Scorpions.. Foxboro Stadium had the BEST Haunted Halloween "Park" "Spooky World!" evah ! ...."misty water colored memories - "
At Gillette , the Razor, - Sullivan Stadium or Foxboro Stadium (which I guess technically some people still call it).. it's like the Fleet Center, TD BankNorth Garden or the Boston Garden. You can call it what you want, its always going to be what YOU remember. for me, its the (North Station) Boston Garden.
Regardless, Gillette iss a stadium to be modeled. It;s an example to the NFL. Its's truly a work of art and with Patriot Place being built, it will surely be a showcase for the NFL. Say what you want about the Patriots (because you hate them beating yourteam by 28 points), but Bob Kraft is a very smart man.
But back to he 80's and the "Way We Were"
Man, what a TRIP to watch Bird McHale, Parrish, Carr and yes, Ainge.
Boston was rocking.
Until Bill Buckner, Boston saw hell at that point and resolved to change,I also love Baseball (and not just MLB), NCAAF, NCAAM, NBA, NHL and sigh, Tiger Woods, I will watch any tournanent he's playing. How can you NOT?
Daily, I check ESPN, I check NESN. I check FOXSports.. I watch Mike and Mike in the Morning on ESPN2 every single day. I watch Jay and Dana on First Take - DAILY. As annoying that Skip Bayless is? I LIKE him ! I Love Mark Schlereth (sp?), Chris Berman.... and I am totally in love with Sean Salisbury. This could be my formal marriage proposal to Sean if he's reading my senseless blog.
Yes I suppose that my boss MIGHT get angry but since I do my job, meet my deadlines, show up for meetings half awake and I only mutter 4th and inches a couple times in a production meeting,, he beleives I'm doing what they pay me to do. (Good one for me ! )
One day, I just happened to check SI.com. I NEVER go to SI, Just not my thing, Probably because the bathing suit issue every year reminds me that I'm not one of the "beautiful" women. Betcha Naomi doesn't know what a leg whip or an illegal formation is though. I bet that whatever her name is that graces this years cover can't tell you the difference between a false start and an offside or just to throw her off the bleacher's - ENCROACHMENT! Oh, now THAT would be a bet I would take. Yeah, but again, I digress, men really dont care if Naomi knows what a leg whip is, they just care if she can :-)
About all this, (and I know, you never start a sentence with a preposition - although with Sean, I might start with a proposition or proposal! ), I again digress, Sports, especially the hit'em kick'em kill'em ones, are geared toward men. Maybe it's a phallic or neanderthal thing. Being the expected beasts that they want to be? ?? Perhaps men just naturally gravitate to those phallic supporting sports that they WISH they could do in a barroom but alas, their wife or GF or mortified "date" always seems to "talk some sense into them" before their 5'9 "I've had 2 Mojito's" Clark starts the insane "I've had 2 more mohitos than you tough guy" mantra and goes up against a 6'3 named Adonis that "Clarks" wife and her friends are giggling about. (the tattoo? the one that says "Killer"? on that award winning beet they call a bicep, is our giggle clue) Hey "tough guy" ! Here's a secret, but don't share it, women of the world will blackball me (and I mean that in a non literal way). We giggle because its just damn FUNNY. That guy you THINK we have it for? Reminds us of Brett Favre. Or Vinny Testerverde. (You had to know there was gonna be a "theme here" right?) It might look good after a gin andtonic, ok, maybe 3 gin and tonics, but hey, get'em home, close your eyes and he's definitely Brad Pitt! .. Until the 5 am bell sounds !
Yeah ok, like you guys don't do that with YOUR dates...Anyway.... We all clicked a few stories, read the stories, read the comments. Apparently, I was "OK" because my profile "looked male". (Women reading it saw the "female" part of it...lol)
After one particular story or blog or rumor, (not remembering which right now), I attempted a comment back. In order to do that, I had to Join.
So, I "signed up" on Fannation, not realizing that this wasnt SI but a rogue spinoff of SIcom and CNN.com - OK, fine, I read alot of blogs, posted some comments, got "called" out by what my mom would call a "bully", but made some good friends, and yeah, it was worth it. So far. I have some really decent people that I corresond with. One is happily married and lives not to far from me and I'm hoping to meet him and his wife and kids soon :-) Another, just cracks me up and I don't care if he's a two headed monster from France. He's just too funny. Another is a sweet really nice guy who loves the Bruins (ok, so he's in denial.. its just a river in Egypt right?) But he's a nice guy.
There is also Cassidy and Traci and RedSoxBabe. Cass was the first one to welcome me to Fannation and whether you like the Steelers or not, you gotta love Cass. She has fire, she knows her sh**. Not so much about the Pats vs Steelers, but I can forgive her for that :-)
Anyway, just my musings. I've been a member for just a very short time and I have had some serious hate mail, some really really nice email that negates the hate mail, and all in all, to quote Bob (sorry if I get this wrong Bob)
Still Perfect
Still Smiling
Go Patriots!
