Wood Brothers thinks they may have backing for a full season now for the Trevor Bayne car.
NASCAR has said they will allow Trevor to run in Cup and collect points BUT points for Daytona will not be included. He also has to rescind his Championship run in Nationwide.
Damned if you and damned if you do not.
What would you do?
I know I would be just happy to be considered either way so Trevor will be living the dream either way in most of our worlds

As cool as it is that they did get some sponsor money I still believe he should stay in the NW series for at least one year.

I do too, but if the Wood brothers and he think he's ready, they must think he has something.
On another topic, Aren't most drivers getting between 40 and 60% of the race purse? I wonder what he negotiated?

Ditto to that.

As much as I'd like to see him get the points, he's already raced in Nationwide so I think NASCAR has to stick to their guns. With the new points system, I don't think it kills him by loosing those points. Especially if he has a Cinderella season and gets a couple more wins.

doesnt sound like an olive branch, just restating his options under the rule as it stands, he can switch at anytime, but nothing is retroactive.
I would thumb my nose but dont know how to type that.

My only problem with trevor running cup is these teams seem to rush alot of these drivers through and don't allow them enough time to become comfortable in the cars before they get thrown to the wolves. Now they don't preform fast enough and loose their ride because they were rushed.

The biggest negative about Phoenix is tht J.J. is the winningest driver there.

I think he should run for Nationwide points because he will probably perform better there. However, there is nothing wrong with running as many Cup races as possible to keep gaining experience. He's good, but he won't be a Cup Champ his first year. He might as well go for a championship he can win.

Think about it ... Brad K. won Talladega in April of '09 ....... then best finishes in '09 a 6,7, & 8, ...last year only 2 - 10st place finishes / 25th in Points .... for some reason I do not feel Bayne is going to be much better, full time or part time in CUP .....
switching points is kinda of like saying "I would have pick the Winning Powerball Lottery numbers ... but, I forgot to buy a Ticket"

Not sure what to do either way. Before the season started, I thought they could accumulate points but just couldn't win the championship in a series that they hadn't declared for. He should stay declared for the NW unless they really think he can stay in the top 35 for the season.
I think it's kind of a bad deal that he can't compete for Rookie of the Year though. I thought those points were based on how they finished in each race compared to the other rookies. It has nothing to do with points earned for the season standings, so he should be eligible.

I agree that he should stay with NW....one full time year there will give him a better chance at a better year in CUP....it is just too soon.

I know some of you guys aren't fans of JJ and hope he doesn't win another Cup. But there is a great interview on Real Sports. "Full Dis-closer", I've liked him since Jeff brought him into NASCAR. I still say there's something to be said about a team winning 5 in a row.

And off NASCAR, another sports figure on Real Sports that most either love or hate. Mike Tyson. I always watched every fight. Even when he was spinning out of control. It's a real good interview and Mike seems to be in a real good place now.
