It has a good sound to it, doesn't it? 3-0.
I've liked some of the things I've seen from the Black + Gold so far, others I haven't liked so much. Jeff Peterson is a definite bright spot. That kid has great future ahead of him. He sees the court well for a freshman. What I like best about him is his intelligence. He originally committed to an Ivy league team so you know he has some smarts.
I also like what Justin Johnson is doing for us. His shooting is vital with the loss of Adam Hulaska to the NBA and Tyler Smith gone to Tennessee. I am concerned about what will happen when Big Ten caliber defenses lock down on him. Jeff Peterson can't do everything.
I do have a couple of areas of concern. Turnovers has been a huge problem area. I guess maybe it's to be expected from a young team learning a new system.
I'm not a huge fan of walking the ball up the floor. I understand the concept of quality possessions and good shots but when you've got the other beat in transition, I think you should take advantage. How can we have so many turnovers if we are not running? Oh well, I guess I can get used to it. It's Coach Todd Lickliter's system and it has been successful.
Now for a reality check. It's going to be a tough year. No doubt about it. But I think if we have some patience, good things will happen for the Hawkeyes.
Go Hawks!
