In this post you will find some of the biggest sports rivalries. Some of them are not included, because there are just too many, but I have listed some from the pros and from the college level. There will be an introduction, the greatest moment, and the heroes for each rivalry.
1. New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox
No teams are more connected by history, hatred, and Hall of Fame players than the Yankees and the Red Sox. The bad blood began in 1904 when Boston edged New York on the final day of the season to win the American League pennant. The rivalry was still strong when the Red Sox beat the Yankees in the A.L. Championship Series to become the first team in big-league history to win a best-of-seven series after losing the first three games. Between these two team there are 32 World Series titles (26 for the Yankees and 6 for the Red Sox).
Greatest Moment: Until the year 2004, the rivalry was defined by Yankee victories and Red Sox disappointments. The ultimate moment was when the Red sox were down 3 games to none. They then won three in a row to force a game 7 where they also won that game, making the first team to do that in Major League history.
Hero: Curt Schilling - Curt took the mound for game 6 of the 2004 American League Championship Series against the Yankees with his team trailing three games to two - and his right ankle stitched together because of a ruptured tendon. Despite the pain, Schilling pitched seven brilliant innings, giving up just four hits, and left with a 4-1 lead - not to mention a blood-soaked sock. The Red Sox won, 4-2, to force a victorious game 7.
I am not finished with this, but I am having some problems with my computer so i must restart it.
