Let me start by saying, My prayers go to Taylor and his family, this is definitely a tragic situation, and the entire country (except maybe some crazy Cowboys fans) are behind Taylor.

What my problem is, is that this happens probably every day in the United States. Somebody's house gets broken into, and someone gets shot and sustains an injury that could be life threatening.

Why is it that something like this must happen to a visible person for the nation to be alerted to the situation. I watch the news sometimes, and hear about 3-5 homicide deaths every time. And I live in Minneapolis. I can't imagine how much worse it is in Miami.

The point is, our country needs to wake up to these kinds of things. O.J. wasn't the first person to try to steal something back from someone, Darrent Williams wasn't the first person to get shot and killed, Pacman wasn't the first person to shoot someone outside a nightclub, Michael Vick wasn't the first person to be involved in dogfighting.

Why can't we wake up to these everyday occurences on the local scale? Why must we need a celebrity to do something stupid or have something tragic happen to them for those things to become known. It sickens me.

Again, my prayers are with Sean Taylor and his family tonight, I hope he can come back and play again.

again your right, but everything in america is that way

November 26, 2007  10:38 PM ET

watch the baltimore news... 15-20 homicide...

November 26, 2007  10:38 PM ET

Because we don't care about people we DON'T know at all. We KNOW Sean Taylor, Michael Vick, O.J. Simpson, Pacman Jones, etc as we see them every week and probably more often than that due to the EXTENSIVE coverage of the NFL by ESPN, NFL Network, and other news sources. I don't watch the regular news, but I watch the NFL Network, ESPN, and Comcast Sportsnet for my football news (mostly Comcast Sportsnet and NFL Network). I don't really care about the guy that got shot and robbed who lives a county or two over, but I care about Sean Taylor who got shot and robbed down in Miami. I care about my team and its players NOT some person I'll never meet (and never want to meet)...

pacman wasn't the trigger man... he was just there... and you know, it takes someone else to tell us what's really going on... it's a societal issue, it's never going to change

November 26, 2007  10:39 PM ET

and playing again... he will never play again.. he is lucky to get back all of his brain usage

November 26, 2007  10:40 PM ET

I said hope guthrie, I know it is not likely, but neither was Kevin Everett walking again...

November 26, 2007  10:40 PM ET

November 26, 2007  10:42 PM ET

big ifs bigben... he lose so much blood they dont know if his brain still works correctly.. he may be partial paralyzed or even partially mentally retarded

November 26, 2007  10:43 PM ET

November 26, 2007  10:44 PM ET

It's all iffy right now, let's all just hope he walks and gets brain usage back for starters...

November 26, 2007  10:45 PM ET

Guthrie, I know almost ALL the details of the situation.

I already know that and all of his blood has been replaced which is excellent progress. Have faith...he shall return...

sry.. had to say that

November 26, 2007  10:50 PM ET

my question is... why no burglary alarm?

November 26, 2007  10:53 PM ET

I don't think they could get ALL of his blood back in, Ben. But what do I know.

Anyway, I had the same knee jerk reaction as everyone. The "OMG a famous person has gotten shot" reaction. I'm sure I would be reacting much differently if it was an Packer or something, but it's all sort of gotten numbed (can't think of better word choice) to me. My family watches the local Baltimore news every morning. Every morning its the same. Triple shooting, double stabbing, the list goes on. After a while, it's all the same to me. Sean Taylor is just another guy who got shot and I want him to recover. He isn't "Sean Taylor, football superman, who got shot fighting for his life and hopes to play football again." I couldn't care less about Sean Taylor's football career right now. This all might sound horrible, but in the society we are in where people get shot everyday, it all wears down on you. Taylor's just become another statistic of burglar's shooting the people they were trying to rob. It's just all gone numb on me.

Yeah, I hope Sean Taylor gets better, but I hope everybody else who has gotten shot gets better too. I don't care about Sean Taylor, Football Player, right now, I care about Sean Taylor the person right now.

I know this is all different for you Ben because you're one of the Redskins' top fans, but if you look at the big picture, Taylor's just another home burglary victim who got shot.

That sounds horrible, but it's the truth.

Whew, had to let that all out.

i agree DJ

November 26, 2007  10:57 PM ET

I heard that it /was a deliberate attack on Taylor.

November 26, 2007  10:58 PM ET

seems like it tracy

November 26, 2007  10:58 PM ET

DJ, if Taylor can't play again, I'd be crushed, but if he can still live normally that's fine with me and is a GREAT thing. Also, according to Comcast Sportsnets reporters they had pretty much ALL of Sean Taylor's blood replaced (and that was at around 7:30-8:00 PM) so by now it would ALL have to have been replaced (or REALLY close to it).
