I think you have to look at the players dominance and impact to their teams, the league and the overall sport. Should you include Lebron in that comparison. Who was the most consistently dominant player. They are comparable but still three different kinds of apples.

Lebron does not belong in this conversation.

Jackson would probably say Wilt was the best ever. The Kobe - MJ argument is a mute point - maybe for 3rd place all-time since the Big O may is #2.

Wow. MJ is the best although his greatness is overrated. Players like Magic, Kareem, Bird, Wilt and a few others are also in the conversation but MJ edges them all out.

Jordan didn't start winning til guys like Magic, Bird, Isiah, Kareem, and some others had retired or passed their prime. Before that He couldn't win

Magic > Jordan as players IMO.
But Jordan changed forever the game in a way that it simply transcends the game. In that sense, I don't think anyone can compare with MJ, because what he did was done and that's it.
He was at the right time, at the right place, and was media-savvy enough to recognize it.

Part of me kind of feels Kobe might be better than MJ...the reason? Look at when MJ finally started winning titles and Kobe his...look at the team around them. I think the Bulls teams that MJ was on were better (overall) than the Lakers. If you took MJ and Kobe out....which team has a better chance (not saying either would, just which one is better?). Looks at guys now in the Hall of Fame from Chicago...then ask yourself....who on these Lakers teams will make it in? Fisher, Odem, Bynum, Gasol? MJ is without a doubt the guy who did things no one back then could do...but know many emulate.

Jordan never had a real powerhouse at Center.. Kobe did.. bottom line..

April 28, 2011  02:15 PM ET

^ or Kobe does.. Kobe has it pretty nice in L.A. , always has.. well, Kwame Brown? lmao

Kobe Bryant has to take a back seat to:
Wilt Chamberlain
Michael Jordan
Kareem Jabbar
Larry Bird.

If you disagree with this then your OPINION means nothing because it isn't based on reality.

Just curious.

I'd probably rank Kobe ahead of Magic and behind Duncan and the Big O.

I've always thought Magic's accolades depended in part to the team he was on. Without Kareem and Worthy, Magic would've still been great but people would probably put him in the same category as Stockton or Earl Monroe. I've always believed Pete Maravich was better than any guard who played but that can't be proven by wins or stats. I think if Maravich had decent teammates to pass to he'd have averaged 20+ ppg and 10+ apg.
