As a Houston Texans Fan, I jumped for joy when I read the paper yesterday (well- I didn't actually jump, since it was 6AM and I wasn't awake yet). I'm glad Mike Sherman is leaving...the Texan's offense has not benefited from his stint here as offensive coordinator. Their record (5-6) is disappointing but not surprising, given the offense's bungles and poor play calling that happen in most games.
For example: the Texans played the Browns (32nd ranked defense) last Sunday... everyone predicted a shoot out since both teams were struggling on defense. The final score was Browns 27-Texans 17. What happened? For one thing, the Texans were running the ball well in the first half...Ron Dayne was averaging 4.9 yards/carry. The Texans were not so far behind that they needed to abandon the run. But, that's what they did. Dayne ended up with just 16 carries. Second, their best player, Andre Johnson, had THREE friggin' passes thrown to him! 2 costly turnovers pretty much cost them the game.
Speaking of turnovers, check out these statistics: the Texans have 29 turnovers in 10 games!! These turnovers have led to 108 points by their opponents. There is NO EXCUSE for professional football players to repeatedly make this many mistakes, but the coaches have to take their share of responsibility as well...obviously they are not preaching or practicing properly when it comes to PROTECTING THE FOOTBALL!!! I'd expect this type of sloppy play from a Pop Warner team, not an NFL team that charges so much money for tickets that I can only afford to attend 1 game per year.
The Texans are slowly putting together some talent on offense....Matt Shaub is a definate upgrade over David Carr (just ask Carolina Panthers fans). Andre Johnson is a talented wide receiver, and tight end Owen Daniels is really coming into his own. The offensive line isn't great, but has improved. But their talent is wasted because of all the turnovers.
So, maybe Sherman will have better luck with the Aggies. I just hope the Texans hire an offensive coordinator that can reduce the # of turnovers and get these high paid athletes to perform as professionals instead of amatuers.

I can't fault Mike Sherman...I liked the guy in GB and did produce some pretty high scoring offenses w/ GB and won them 3 NFC North titles. He just didn't have the talent in Houston that he had in GB.

Talent or not, at this level the players should be expected to hold onto and protect the ball. Since this is not some isolated incident, but has been an issue for 10 games...the players AND coaches bear the responsibility. Don't know how many (if any) Texans games you've watched...but the Texans offensive play calling is suspect; they fail to adjust to opponents' 1/2 time adjustments; they completely disappear in the 3rd quarter of most games...

Mike Sherman is really not that good of a coach. He started out well, but after 4th and 26 his coaching went to pot.

Yeah League of Shadows....4th & 26 shall never be forgotten.
But, in his defense, the players need to make plays on the field...Mike can't go out there and make the tackles and coverages for them.

Yeah, but on that play he overruled Ed Donatell's play call, and Sherman's play was the one the Eagles converted on. He then promtply fired Donatell instead of taking the blame.
