For those that didn't actually read the book instead of just watching the movie. The Blindside explains the shift of valuing position players once Free Agency was introduced to the NFL. Teams started valuing Left Tackles and pass rushing DE/LB to interupt the most valuable player, the QB.
So the question is, has the value of the Running back decreased? Causing another shift in players values? Or was this just a case of player value in the draft and no decent RBs worth going in the 1st round?
Look at the evidence:
Last season there was a record 5 Qbs that passed for over 4,000 yds. Showing that teams are becoming more pass happy than ever.
The evolution of the running back committee (No RB had more than 70% of the carries). Some teams with a committee approach:
The value of the running back taken after the1st round. Believe it or not none of these RBs listed below were drafted in rd 1, and make up the top 3 rushers in the league, 50% of top ten, and all rushed for over 1,000 yrds.

Why would a team waste the $ and 1st round pick on a RB when talent can be taken later?
