There is a part of me that wants Nolan to come back no matter what. I like that the guy is a snappy dresser, a class act, and a family guy. But in football none of that really matters.
I got a chance to watch the replay of Sunday's game against the Cards, last night. And I am thinking of putting up a dairy to open up more discussion about issues that I think are important. Why now you may be asking? Its because I seldom see replays of the game. That is to say, the first time I watch a game I usually can only focus on where the ball is and that is where my eyes go. The second time around I can relax and watch the things I missed the first time.
Which leads me back to Nolan. I thought he did some questionable things, after wacthing a second time, I know he did some questionable things. Or maybe I am just not seeing his strategy behind it, maybe you guys can offer some insight.
Here is the issue: In Sunday's game the Cards had the ball, the game clock nearing the 2 minute warning--2:13 on the clock to be exact. The Cards were facing a 4th down, the clock running. It is at this point that Nolan called a timeout. Here is my beef. Why call a timeout? We had the lead, and the clock was going to stop for the 2 minute warning or the change of possession. So, Nolan, basically called a timeout to save 13 seconds.
It is almost a moot point because after the timeout and subsequent punt--penalty on Cards--punt--Hudson ran into the kicker. Which by the way is the 3rd such penalty of the year.
Having said that, I think it's great the Niners got the win. What's even better? I saw a clip of Nolan postgame. The dude actually showed a hint of a smile. The guy deserves a reason to smile.
