Today, I was talking with my friend, and we thought, ya know what was awesome? BYU winning the title in '84. Every time I think about it, it still amazes me. How did that ever happen? Now, the BCS treats mid-majors like lepers. They would never give one a chance at title again. Unless, maybe, if they REALLY deserved it. And you'd need one weird senario for that.

And here's that situation: West Virginia and Mizzou lose. Think about it. We'd have one team on top and, oh, say 10 OTHER TEAMS!  It'd be the a disaster. Every single expert, wanna-be-expert, and Lou Holtz in the world would have a different opinion. And the BCS would pick the one team no one wanted. And ya know who'd we'd say: Hawaii. Yes, the Warriors. If all the other teams have 2 losses(exept for Kansas, who suddenly is literaly chopped liver), and Hawaii has 0, they should play Ohio State in the Title Game! No other team deserves it, so why not give them a shot? No one has had the guts to do it in 23 years, so if it fails, don't do it again! If they win, the state of Hawaii will rename its self 2007land and have the world's biggest luau for 3 months straight. And the BCS know-it-alls will be praised! And everyone will be happy?

Seriously, does anyone think Georgia would deserve a spot in the New Orleans? I say, just put them in, take a shot, and hey, maybe it will be fun. So here's hoping for a Pitt and Oklahoma big winning weekend. Then maybe, that BYU magic will come back.

Hawaii Warriors would crush them...it would be lovely!

November 30, 2007  01:26 PM ET

put down the crack pipe, hawaii is like a souped up import, all show and no go!

November 30, 2007  01:33 PM ET

That's why your "good friends" and conference mates, Michigan and Michigan state, refused to play them, just like you are.

November 30, 2007  01:41 PM ET

Sorry we have USC and OU scheduled we'll come get you next time youngstown or kent isnt available

November 30, 2007  01:43 PM ET

Come play a few in the Big Ten you would go 1-9, thats cause Minnesota would hand you the game...
Dont get in over your head...The water is deep in big boy land, this aint the WAC

November 30, 2007  01:45 PM ET

Yeah...That's how the OU fans felt last year BEFORE the Fiesta Bowl and Boise State (Just like youngstown or kent, right?) After the game, there was nothing but humble pie to eat.

So, are you up for some "Humble Poi"?

November 30, 2007  01:49 PM ET

Beat Purdue last year. This year no Big Ten wanted to play! Look at OSU's non-conference "powerhouse" scheduling this year. The Warriors were looking for Big Ten games and schools like Michigan turned us down and decided to go with App. State...All of Hawaii loved that result!

November 30, 2007  02:11 PM ET

I make no claims for UM hell I would actually like to see them get beat every game...
I'm givin' a lil ****, good to see some Rainbow Warrior fans on here.
OSU schedules in state powder puff teams to keep money in the state and some other political stuff...
As for big ten teams scheduling well ooc games OSU takes more chances than most, maybe a Hawaii game could be on the schedule in the future, I personally would love that road trip...

November 30, 2007  02:32 PM ET

Last year Purdue beat Minnesota, Northwestern, Michigan State, Illinois, and Indiana. They lost to Iowa, Wisconsin and Penn State. Purdue finish behind OSU, Wisconsin, Michigan and Penn State.

# 25 Hawaii beat Purdue 42-35. Last year Hawaii probably could have been 3rd or 4th in the Big Ten.

This year, Hawaii knew that this was their best team ever and tried to schedule Michigan. Michigan State was already on the schedule and had to PAY MONEY to UH to cancel the game. We would have beaten Michigan State and Michigan in the Big house if the Wolverines had agreed to play us...Loyd Carr knew it and that's why he avoided the Warriors. To me, that means that OSU and Illinois are the only Big Ten Teams that could challenge this year's Hawaii team.

I'd love to see OSU and Hawaii play THIS YEAR. Your statement that we'd go 1-9 in the Big Ten is way off base.

Let's set up a fight between you 2, you obviously have a lot of time on your hands.

November 30, 2007  04:25 PM ET

Slow day in the IT world...
Like I said I was just givin you ****, but you would have alot of troubl win the BIg Ten

November 30, 2007  11:33 PM ET

We'll see, oh pompous ones...

Non-BCS conferences are 2-0 in BCS games(Utah/MWC and Boise State/WAC). This year may be the end of the BCS. By the way, FaustoCarmonaFan, I'm interested in a football game against Ohio State...that will settle everything! xxx84xxx...The Warriors and Fans have been taking crap all year. We're getting tired of it. We want football games, not crap talk!

November 30, 2007  11:48 PM ET

Last year's Boise State team and this year's Hawaii team are totally different.

Boise had....damn.....what's that called....that's it, Talent!

November 30, 2007  11:55 PM ET

Well, there are several differences between BYU's situation and the current one.

1. The system now is deliberately stacked against the minor conferences. Whereas then the teams were suffering due to lack of exposure and such, now they're suffering from more of a premeditated conspiracy on the part of the major conferences and the bowl execs to make it very difficult for those teams to win a title. It's *technically* possible for a WAC or MWC team to make it to the title game, but unlikely at best.

2. BYU won the title without ever having to play a top-10 team. Now, in their defense, no one wanted to play them. But in the BCS system a WAC/MWC/etc team would have to defeat the system listed above, AND on top of that, would have to defeat either the #1 or #2 team in the country. I'm not saying that's not possible, I'm just saying it's a lot more difficult than winning the Holiday Bowl.

On the matter at hand. If Hawaii defeats Washington, as expected, Hawaii certainly deserves the BCS nod and has a pretty strong argument to play in the national title game. Obviously, the latter won't happen. The Boise team last year could've taken down any team in the country on heart alone.

Hey, look at that, my "disaster scenario" actually happened!
