I couldn't care less which neck won the bumper car "race" Sunday. However, both the Indy 500 & the F1 Monaco Grand Prix had plenty of action, intrigue & dumb moves.
Dumbest move of the day goes to JR Hildebrand who was a few feet from winning the most famous auto race ever. But being a rookie he couldn't let up when coming upon a slower lapped car & thus put himself in the wall making Dan Wheldon a 2-time winner of the Indy 500.
It didn't help that this was a race in which for once neither of the big teams Penske or Ganassi would end up with a driver in the top 5. All 3 Penske drivers had bad days (Helio a lap down-when does that happen?) And for some reason Ganassi's two drivers had fuel issues (Dario ran out on the last lap after spending the last 10 laps driving almost 10 mph slower than anyone else. Brain freeze Chip?).
But because Indy is different than any other indy car race you had a top 10 made up of either one race only drivers(like the winner) or usual backmarkers in the top spots. Think of this: except for his own fuel issues the race might have been won by someone named Bertrand Baguette. That's right, think of the headline "French Bread wins 500". Does he have a cousin named Claude Croissant? LOL
But let's be fair. There is no reason Dan Wheldon should be without a full season ride in Indy Car. He's won several races over the years, but got screwed by a car owner(get this-Hildebrand's) who didn't pay him last year.
Then there's Monaco. A tight course with very little passing but lot's of prestige. This year it was also a crash fest. Thanks a lot Hammie! That's Lewis Hamilton, former world champion who put 2 drivers out yesterday with ill advised moves. he was penalized for both crashes, then of course, blamed the victims & the F1 stewards. he even claimed it was because he's black! No it's because you are a nitwit who regularly runs people off the road. The new Schumacker. Who sometimes would get penalized for the same thing. Was he disciplined because he's German?
Like Indy it was tight at the end & you weren't sure who was going to win until the last accident caused a red flag, which allowed Sebastian Vettel a chance to change tires. that shouldn't have been allowed. Still it was an interesting race. F1 has been more interesting than usual this year because of the new tires & the new passing helpers (KERS & the adjustable rear wings that open for passing).
