Today's blog will just be a short biography about my favorite current professional bass fisherman.

KEVIN VAN DAM

He grew up in Michigan, where he frequently fished for trout, salmon, muskie, walleye and northern pike. But his first love was always fishing for bass.

He turned pro in 1992, and has qualified for every single Bassmaster Classic since turning pro. He holds the record for consecutive Bassmaster qualifications, with 21.

He has competed in 223 career Bassmaster events, winning 20 of them, finished second 11 times, and has finished in the top 10 an astounding 91 times.

He has four Bassmaster Classic titles (2001,2005, 2010, 2011) and six Toyota Tundra Angler of Year titles (1992, 1996, 1999, 2008, 2009 and 2010).

He is widely regarded as the best bass fisherman of today, and with continued success, he will cement himself into the position of best all-time bass fisherman.

As a teenager, VanDam dominated tournament circuits around his Kalamazoo home, winning The Michigan BASS Federation Angler of Year twice before turning pro. At age 23, he became the youngest to win the Toyota Tundra Angler of the Year title, collected an unprecedented 23 consecutive in-the-money finishes and shattered tournament records.

He and his wife have two sons, with whom Van Dam spends most of his time with when he is not competing.

He is also a very avid hunter in the offseason.

The most success I've had Bass fishing was as a teenager. Lived on some acreage and there were probably 15 good sized stock ponds within 15 to 30 minute walk from the house. Me and a few friends would head out after digging worms, night-crawlers were abundant around and in the barns. Using our cheap rods, we usually caught several large and small mouth bass every time we went. Never caught any record size, but some really nice fish. We'd usually camp there that night and cook them over a campfire.

Most fun though was when the Sandies were running on local lakes. Talk about reeling them in almost every cast! Most of those we threw back...
