The New England Patriots are viewed by many as the unsinkable team. As I have been considering the run-in they had with the Eagles last week, I realized that for many teams, this is their one remaining shot at glory this season. If they prepare to the very best of their ability, put everything they have on the line, leave it all on the field, they might, just might be able to bring down the Mighty Patriots. And so they go for it. As I write this, it is in the fourth quarter of the game with Baltimore, and the Patriots have had to settle for a field goal, leaving them behind the Ravens by four points, so they need a timely touchdown to win it. I have little doubt that they have the ability, but with Baltimore fired up like never before, anything could happen.
I remember a movie from many years ago, when the entire british navy threw everything it had in a desperate bid to stop an unsinkable warship, the Bismark. Their orders from Prime Minister Winston Churchill were simple and to the point. "We MUST sink the Bismark." The Bismark was, at that time, the ultimate floating battle platform in the world. It had taken out the HMS Hood, and England realizes that unchecked, it will certainly pick apart the Royal Navy. They sent the entire fleet against the Bismark, and after a ferocious battle with terrible loss of life, managed at last to send the fiercest battleship ever seen up to that time to the bottom of the sea.
Having just checked in, it is down to the last seconds of the game, and the Ravens just gave the Patriots another set of downs on a penalty. Wow... what can you say?
It is my sincere hope that the Patriots are winning as I type this. I want to see them continue to sail the high seas of the AFC and continue to sink their opponents wherever they find them. I hope they really do run the table. But one thing is for sure. They have fierce opponents who will throw everything they have at them in a final desperate assault to sink the unsinkable team.
Final Update! Patriots score!
Not this day! They will not sink on this day! Sail on! Sail on! To victory and to glory! Sail on!
