I would imagine that the vast majority of sports fans are like me.  They look at the current poll/BCS system and laugh.

So many teams were ranked incredibly high simply to lose and fall off the face of the Earth.  In fact when Missouri was #1 in the polls, yet were underdogs against Oklahoma I was mystified.  That is the definition of a flawed system.

Yet the most ridiculous thing is not having a playoff.  I am glad that for the past few years college football has set up a national championship game, that was progress.  And when one or two teams are clearly superior it makes a lot of sense.  But this year there are a handful of teams who deserve to be in that game and it is just a joke.

The best solution to me is simple.  8 team play-off.  The major 6 conferences get to send their champion and then two at large slots that can go to the most deserving (allowing deserving teams outside the major conference and/or great teams who don't win their championship to get a sniff).

The playoff could be three weeks long and starts toward the end of December (when most college don't have classes anyway).  The Championship could rotate between the five current BCS bowls and I personally don't care where you hold the earlier rounds.  You could move the other existing BCS games a week or two early to be a part of it, create new bowl games, let the higher ranked have home games until the championship, or rotate which lesser bowl games get to host them early rounds. Just get me a playoff.

That way all of us fans actually get to see the national championship determined on the field and the big conferences are all guaranteed their piece of the pie (which is now bigger because of higher ratings).

As it is I'm boycotting this year's national championship game.  Not really out of spite, I just don't find LSU versus the Ohio State University that compelling.  Both teams are really good, but there are a handful of other teams who would have a great shot at knocking either off if they had a chance to play them.

Calling it a real championship game is just an insult to any neutral fan's intelligence, and a kick to the nuts of the fans who have a strong case to be there.
