DC Pro Sports Report is pleased to announce the addition of a new writer/editor, Tom Blaz, who has covered professional and college sports teams in the Washington, D.C. area for many years. While Tom was handling sports at ABC Radio, WMAL was often honored by the Associated Press for "Best Year Round Sports Coverage" in the Baltimore/DC metro for major market radio.
A veteran of the DC Sports scene, Blaz was a Washington Redskins beat reporter from the end of the Jack Kent Cook era through the return of Joe Gibbs and also served as beat reporter for the Maryland Terrapins men's basketball team for ten seasons including a pair of Final Fours and a National Championship. He covered the Washington Wizards during the Michael Jordan era and the three playoff seasons from 2004-2007. Tom covered the Cal Ripken Jr. streak, the relocation of the Montreal Expos to Washington and stadium negotiations with Major League Baseball and the D.C. government.
Tom covered the Olympics in Seoul, Barcelona and Atlanta and he owns and operates The Recruiting Eagle, the oldest independent football recruiting website on the Internet. Tom attended Auburn University during the Charles Barkley and Bo Jackson eras and the eldest of his three children is a student there now. [College football fans should be checking The Recruiting Eagle on a regular basis.]
