Sorry to disappoint, but for my first blog, I will not be disclosing what I've found out so far in my investigation of Ron and Nicole's murders. This is also not a tell all confession.
I'd like to actually talk about sports video games if I may. More specifically, why I enjoy buying sports games that are a couple years old.
My friends usually go out and buy the new Madden, new NHL game, etc... as soon as they come out. This doesn't make sense to me, as I have numerous friends with Madden 07, 08, 09, 10.... you get the idea. It's a waste of money and pretty dumb IMO, especially when the games are almost always the same (aside from the rosters and a few tweaks).
Here are 2 reasons why I buy a game (say in 08 or 09) and then keep it for years upon years.
1) I like to create a player and then take that guy to the HOF or until he retires. Most games by 2008 or 2009 had HOF stuff, career stats, etc... so you could see where you rank compared to other greats. You cannot create a guy with a new game and then take him that far. One year (until the next game is released) is not enough time to finish 15-18 years of a career in a sports game, unless you play the same game ALL the time.
2) This is the biggest reason: guys who are stars now, might not have been stars then. At the very least, they weren't ranked as great as they are now. That means I can get my favorite players BEFORE they were stars and pair them up with tons of other soon to be stars.
For example, I just started a new franchise of hockey in NHL 08. I picked the Vancouver Canucks for Dynasty Mode and immediately started dealing. I was stuck with old dinosaurs like Naslund, Ohlund and Linden off the start. Yuck.
I traded those guys away, plus the Sedins, Salo, Sopel, etc... and got TONS of my favorite players before they became house hold names. My roster includes:
Zach Parise, Travis Zajac, Mike Richards, Jeff Carter, Alex Burrows, Ryan Kesler, Rene Bourque, JP Dumont, Mikko Koivu, Patrick Sharp, Dustin Buflyguien, Shea Weber, Cam Barker, Niklas Kronwall, Brent Burns and several other key names.
I happen to be fogetting some, but Dumont is probaly the "worst" player on my team. I kept Roberto Luongo in net, which probably would garner some ridicule out there.
Point is, I love these old games. I'd never be able to have these guys on the same team in NHL 2011 in Dynasty Mode. Salary Cap issues and all.
What do you think? Newer = better?

Gotta disagree w/ you Juice. Not only are the new versions a bit better, but at the same time you do not have to compensate switching player that were on old team on different team. It's such a waste of time. Plus with some, the stats and player characteristics are much more uip to date and reflect the current reality.
