While teams like the Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles totally rebuild their rosters through the draft, while at the same time continuing to make the playoffs, the Redskins have failed to capitalize on great draft position during long periods of playoff drought. Of note: None of the players selected by the Redskins before 2004 are currently in the NFL. An alarming few taken since are duefully employed and are note in bold. (those on the bubble are in italics)
2004 draft
1) Sean Taylor
2) To Denver in Clinton Portis/Champ Bailey deal
3) Chris Cooley (traded 2nd rounder in ???05 draft for New Orleans 3rd rounder)
3) Mark Brunell trade

Very solid pick of free safety Taylor which of course had a tragic ending. Was running back Clinton Portis worth cornerback Champ Bailey and a second round draft pick? Chris Cooley was excellent value, arguably best in recent years. The Skins had to trade the ???05 second rounder to New Orleans to get the Cooley pick. Washington had traded its own 3rd rounder for Mark Brunell.
2005 draft
1) Carlos Rogers
1) Jason Campbell
2) SAINTS- moving up to take Chris Cooley in ???04 draft
3) BRONCOS- part of deal to move up for Jason Campbell
4) VIKINGS- traded down for 4th and 5th picks- (Manuel White and Robert McCune)
5) EAGLES- James Thrash trade
6) selected guard Jared Newberry
7) selected running back Nehemiah Broughton
