So Terry LaBonte is going to get a ride next week in the #38 at the Glen. I guess its a nice gesture for anyone to hire our senior citizens and give these people living on social security and a fixed income a little side money. (sarcasm!). If you were Helton and the rules committee team, how would you fix this? To me, its a wild card that allows an owner to buy one of the 43 starting positions. That said, almost NONE of the Go or Go homer's even intend to run a full race, or are trying to get their new driver some "valuable seat time" in a cup ride. So, should we really not care? is it just a nuance that affects who startes in the "way back" and pulls off when they use up their first set of them expensive Goodyears? If it were up to you, how would you address this rule?

The credit rating is dropped, the wars are still going on, the heat is terrible, Jooonya is close to dropping into Wild Card range and you want me to worry about a start and parker. LOL
Seriously, I don't think it hurts anyone or anything so let's give the old guys a thumbs up. LOL

Could be your browser, for some reason Chrome will not put in paragraph unless you separate them with the following.

separate each paragraph with the above and it will look normal.

As far as your subject goes.
Must agree with Bush's fan in comment #2.

I think they need to reduce the field to around 35 to 38 cars anyway. Anyone past that doesn't really make a difference one way or the other for me. Until they do that, let the previous champs race.

Can't argue with that one bit. If you start, at least intend to finish.

The S&Ps drive me crazy, like a gnat buzzing around your head you can't swat. But with all the other things that need to be addressed, it's like a gnat on an elephant's ****...

But to answer your Q, NASCAR knows who they are, suspend them until they start completing races.

In February, tire-maker Goodyear, said that it would close its Union City manufacturing plant in Tennessee because the factory was no longer competitive.

1900 jobs gone and you have to wonder who will make the tires that this plant made.
Where will it end?

Im all for anybody giving an ''OLD TIMER'' a break, even me, LOL

Question: Has anyone in the past few years that has been a start and park team got anywhere?

Well they were making a big deal about Furniture Row Racing starting out as a S&P and after like 6 years they won the Darlington Race this year.

And then there's the oxymoron named Front Row Motorsports. They started as S&P and now are up to 3 cars, only one of which is full time S&P. The other two are part time S&P.

On topic: If a past champ wants to race let them race. I agree for the most part they aren't taking the spot from anyone who would run the whole race. Although I do believe it is mostly the S&Ps hiring them at this point.

And actually Pond, of the S&Ps only Andy Lally is a "new driver". All the others are past drivers like JJ Yaley, Mike Skinner, Mark Green, etc.

But isn't using a past champ similar to transferring owner points before Daytona? Really if you are going to look at and start mucking with the Champ's Provisional you also should look into that too.

Yes hanging in there and waiting for them to tell me when they want to operate, then I can get all the post operate tests done, the damn waiting is crazy, thanks for asking.

If you were Helton and the rules committee team, how would you fix this? .. Get Rid of it! ... The Past Champion rule came before the Top35 rule .... so it really not longer needed ...

and like I said, .... DANICA .... first CUP race ... The Daytona 500 ....

IN cause Tony will Transfer his owner points for the #14 to DANICA #?? ... and then use his Past Championship in 2005 with GIBBS to get IN too ...

Or Maybe Owners should get Past Championships to use .... Not Drivers ? ...

Penske used Kurt Busch PC which he Won at Roush ... to be able to transfer the #2 points to the #77 Sam the Man Hornish, when Sam came along ...

August 10, 2011 09:50 AM ET

And the worst case .... was Dale Jarrett using his Past Championship to get MWR / TOYOTA in to races ...

And that is who, Terry is driving for the #38 Front Row Motorsports ...

which is out of the Top35 ...

Last time Terry drove at the GLEN in 2007 ....

Front Row #37 is also out of the Top35 .... but has Scott Speed driving ... who was .. 1 year old when Terry won his Championship in 1984 ....
