Besides having Kurt in there could mean a brotherly battle (that they cannot do in cup) that gets downright ugly. (hoping for just that) at the Glen.

Well the grandkids couldn't sell the track or Cup date, but it seems like they recognized and addressed fans dreading the races there. It's a start.

Next shortest CUP is Martinville 263 / Bristol 266.5 ...

Minumium CUP race s/b 250 miles ....

Take Bristol 250 laps NW vs 500 laps CUP ...
or Atlanta 300 miles NW vs 500 miles for CUP ...

Unless they are calculating more on time then distance for the road races.

At the Glen:
An average speed of 90 mph over 3 hours would be 270 miles, throw in potential cautions driving at 55-60 mph and that would just extend the race. So to compensate you "build in" the cautions laps by making the race distance shorter.

At Sonoma:
That race is a 350K race according to Wikipedia, which is 218.9 miles. Again with an average speed of 75 mph that race takes between 2.5 - 3 hours to run.
