Payback is a****.

Jingle Bells! Judge Henry Hudson has given dog lovers an early Christmas bonus by punishing Mike Vick with twenty three months in the pound and three years of probation, longer than the federal sentencing guidelines called for. Although, unlike most dogs at the pound, Mick Vick will be getting out alive.
Wearing a black and white striped prison jumpsuit, Vick apologized to the court and his family. Hudson told him: "You need to apologize to the millions of young people who looked up to you."
"Yes Sir," Vick answered as his mom wept. Boo hoo. Mama should've shown her boy how to respect all of this earth's creatures at a young age.
Dog lovers everywhere can rejoice at Judge Henry Hudson's brave move. This is a fair and measured decision that asserts that dog fighting will be prosecuted and that the torture and killing of dogs will no longer be tolerated.
Dog haters and wrongheaded Vick fans are upset today but my dogs are celebrating, not because they're vengeful, but because dozens of Vick's ex dogs will be enjoying the holiday season at the Best Friends Sanctuary in Utah.
For those callous dummies who think "it's just a dog fight" and "they were his property" and that "they just want to bring a black man down," this will not blow over. The Feds and animal welfare advocates who fund undercover investigations are just getting started clearing the NFL of dogmen (white, black, yellow or purple dogmen). And they won't stop there. As I write this, undercover investigators are fanning out all over the country and no dogman is safe.
Merry Christmas Mike Vick. May the dogs you killed rest in peace.

As a fellow dog lover and one who was completely disgusted by the actions of Vick, I am thrilled with this verdict. This is great news for dogs everywhere.

Here's a direct quote from you: "It's stupid, it's an animal, get over it."
Why do you defend cruelty? Defend those who deserve to be defended, victims, human and animal, not empathy-challenged thugs who make hundreds of millions playing ball and disrespcting the sport, the fans and man's best friends...DOGS
Do you think Vick invested in "the hood?" No, he invested in criminals, in cruelty and of all things, a WINE store.
Keep whining.

How dare you applaud this sentence. Vick should have gotten nothing more than a fine a probation for this. Dogfighting is such a trivial thing for a guy to go to prison for 2 years and lose the millions of dollars he has.

It is truly disgusting that anyone would refer to dogfighting as a "trvial thing". Anyone that thinks that should be ashamed.

Hey Bill, # 4 comment.
I Dare and so do MILLIONS of concerned people. Animal welfare advocates are millions strong. There are more of us than you think. We will rid sports of these criminals.
Thank you for your callous and empathy-free remarks. Glad to know you.

How typical that people should have more respect for sport and for a man's money than for another living, breathing being. Particularly one who has been so loyal to mankind, and probably would have defended Vick to the end, despite all the pain he caused those dogs.
No amount of prison time can ever repay that.

Speaking as a disinterested party to the government's case against Vick, I agree with the Judge's harsher sentence for Vick as the financial benefactor of the crime and the ultimate but for cause of the crime. His lack of cooperation or responsible behavior since his indictment could have gotten him even more time. I believe Vick was treated like any convicted felon in his shoes would be treated and his celebrity really had no impact on the length of the sentence. To the animal activists who continue to be appauled by this particular crime and do not feel satisfied with Vick's incarceration, there is a really interesting question forthcoming. Is it justified for Vick to be tried again on state charges after already pleading guilty to a federal charge? Or is it a double jeopardy scenario?

Thanks for your comments. No, in this case, it's not considered double jeopardy because the charges are actually different -- they are State violations. He's in big trouble.

I am a huge football fan and I have watched Vick through the Pros as wellas college and I have seen him do great and lousy on the field. I realized as most the NFL world that he was overrated and would never be a great (as in Montana, Young, Elway, Favre) QB. But now I know just what a waste of a human he is.
The track record shows that he bought the land right after signing his HUGE rookie contract and arranged and even participated in killing these dogs. He was the bank for this "casino", he is the Tony Soprano in this mess. HE IS THE BAD APPLE, not his friends though they are definitelt at fault as well.
He purposesly arranged not to plead guilty to the dog fighting and only to the intrestate trafficking charges. But the State charges are specifically for the dogfighting so a deal here would require admitting to killing dogs. No double jeopardy!!
I am not a PETA person by any means but I have always had great dogs and currently have a pit/rot mix named Moya. She is very well behaved and is great with cats. The fact is dogs have personalities and feelings, to truly own a dog is to have a member of your family. To the people on here who are talking mess for Vick you must have never had a dog or if you do I fear for how you treat them. There is no sport in this, these dogs are being killed b/c they don't fight. I applaud the judge for giving him 23 months I wish it was more but hopefully the state sentence will be tacked on after the federal.

I proudly own 2 loving, family pittbulls named Sugar & Spice. I have no kids, so Sugar and Spice get spoiled as if they were my babies. I live in east Texas where there has always been rumors of large amounts of dog fighting in the area. Recently, an entire family was arrested around Carthage who was involved in one of the largest dog fighting rings in the U.S. I played football against a few of the boys who were arrested, it sends chills down my spine to imagine I was friendly to these people. One of my greatest fears is that someone may try to steal my dogs and use them as "bait dogs". I have heard of some of these trashy people wiring the stolen dogs mouthes shut so they wouldnt be able to harm their fighting dogs in any way before tearing the bait dogs apart. I believe my dogs would give their lives for me if I were being attacked, so I have prepared to do the same for them if I have to. I keep an AR-15 by my bedside especially for these dog thieves, and would gladly kill any of them if they came for my dogs in the night. I would love to find out how to be more vigilant against dog-fighters. I say kill em all. As for Michael Vick, I would have been pleased to see him wet down and electrocuted to death just like how he did his dog after losing a fight.
