Theres 2 ways a person can look at Mike Vick's prison sentence. It can be looked at as a triumph of the Justice System for putting away a sociopathic monster who brutally tortured and killed dozens of innocent dogs, and in doing so defended creatures who cannot speak out to defend themselves. Or, you can hold the assertion that the Justice System went completely overboard and sentenced a man to two years in prison for gambling and creulty to animals, and in doing so ruined a man's livliehood. Ill take the latter. 23 months for dog fighting is way too much, but the Justice System is not the only people at fault in this situation. The NFL is too. They were wrong to suspend Vick for this. Sure the judge gave him 23 months, but the end result here is that combined with the NFL's indefinite suspension cost Vick his livlihood. In the end Vick will have lost millions of dollars, all of his property, and his job. I defy anybody to tell me that anybody deserves to lose thier job and most of thier possessions over dog fighting.

Ok the man killed six to eight dog and operated an illegal enterprise, that does deserve some legal recourse, but nothing more than probation.  A one day prison sentence is too much. Its dogfighting, thats it. Who cares? Did Vick really harm American society by having dogs fight each other? Is having two dogs fight any worse than shooting an innocent deer just for "sport"? And what kind of a sport is hunting anyway? How is hiding behind a bush and shooting a defenseless animal when it isnt looking a sport? If Vick loses everything over dogfighting, than every hunter in the US should suffer the same fate. What hunters do is more cowardly than what Vick did.

And shame on PETA, lining up in protest of Vick at Falcons training camp, and cheering the sentence. Shame on you for putting more value in the condition of a dogs existence than a human beings. Remeber this, animals do not know and do not care that you support thier rights. They are animals, they have no concept of what rights are, and kill each other for survival all the time. Why is it wrong for humans to kill and process animals for food and not for carnivores out in the wild?

When all is said and done, Vick could possibly be left with nothing. Yes he broke the law and should have been punished, but only with a fine and probation. Bad Newz Kennelz did not hurt and people, only dogs. Killing dogs should not warrant what punishments Vick, or anybody will endure. I really hope things turn out ok for Vick in the longrun, and actually hope he can find a spot in the NFL again. But after all of this he will have most likely missed four seasons and his comback is unlikely. If you can justify this please let me know why Vicks punishment is justifiable.

I think you are wrong and any jury of Vick's peers would have agreed with the prosection. Vick is to blame for this outcome but not coming forward and admitting everything day one. He tried to dodge his responsibility and only when his friends turned on him did he finally fess up to his role. The dude got what he deserved.

PETA is a terrorist organization. Everyone who has ever considered to enter that group is a complete and total idiot.

December 10, 2007  03:48 PM ET

I cannot disagree with you more. Vick's sentence was just. If he was so worried about his career and his livelihood he should have stuck with football. While I do not agree with everything PETA has done in the past, I am with them 100% on this. However I truly believe everyone deserves a second chance. Vick will still be young when he is released. It will be tough for him, but he did it to himself. If the NFL is able to forgive he may get that second chance. He'll have to find a team that is willing to put up with any backlash. Sounds like a job for the Raiders.

Thanks for deleting my previous comment...obviously you couldn't accept that hunting and dog fighting isn't the same thing.

December 10, 2007  06:49 PM ET

DUDE THE JUSTICE SYSTEM DID NOT RUIN HIS LIVELYHOOD HE DID!!!
HE BROKE THE DAMN LAW, SO GET OVER IT FOR GOD'S SAKE!!!

December 10, 2007  07:05 PM ET

You are a total fool. You need to sit under a big tree and think for awhile.

December 10, 2007  07:08 PM ET

What does his sentence have to do with PETA?

December 10, 2007  07:09 PM ET

This one of the dumber things I have ever read in my life time.

December 10, 2007  08:57 PM ET

Seriously? The only person who threatened Mike Vick's l-i-v-e-l-i-h-o-o-d (spell it right) is Mike Vick. Whatever happens to him is his own damn fault, and no one else's.

December 10, 2007  09:25 PM ET

Are you sreious? You must be the second stupidest person on the planet, next to Michael Vick of course. Vick ruined his life by himself, just like Pacman Jones screwed up his life by himself. They both chose that life, made the decisions to dog fight or continue to be around an entorage who continues to shoot people and cause you trouble. Vick had millions of dollars and he threw it all away because he is a cruel person. How would you feel if you were say a wrestler and beat you to make you fight harder, put you in real fight to the death situations, and when you failed, they killed you by drowning you or electricute you, how would you feel then?

December 10, 2007  09:46 PM ET

And i can't believe all you think that he deserves is probation, just because Vick is a human doesn't mean he is human in the moral sense of the word. Anyone who would do what he did to animals could do that just as easily to another human, and therefore he should suffer the consequences of his actions. As far as his being in the NFl, you can forget that, no human being in his right mind would ever hire Vick to play QB after this fiasco. Besides he sucked anyways, he could run yes, but he couldn't throw worth a lick and that is what cost him so many games. If you ask me Vick got off easy, he should have gotten at least 3 years if not more, at least he won't ever set foot on the football field again and can't show young kids that it is cool to kill and torture dogs, and get away with it.

Another case of BLACK ROBES, WHITE JUSTICE.

You kill a dog, you go to jail. You kill a Black Man, you go free.

Better yet, you kill millions of innocent Iraqi men, women and children, you get a congressional medal of honor.

Perhaps you all read this wrong. I wrote that yes, Vick did deserve some sort of punishment for breaking the law, but the punishment handed down was much too strict. How is it not a glaring case of hypocrisy that someone is given such a steep punishment for dog fighting, but hunters can continue hunting for "sport" legally? Yes I am aware Vick did very little to help his cause, no I will not be lighting candles in church praying for the man's soul. But in the end his role in running a dog fighting enterprise will have resulted in him losing all of his money, his job, and property. Thats too much to take from a person for something as trivial as dog fighting. Also, for a normal person being a convicted felon will affect thier future job prospects and disqualify them for any type of government employment. Such a harsh punishment should not be imposed for people who just kill dogs. I also feel its wrong to value the quality of an animals existence over that of a human, hence the PETA remarks.

you are outta your mind bud

December 11, 2007  03:42 AM ET

You may be the dumbest person I've read about in a while (Except Vick) Had he told the truth from the start or even sortly after they really started investigating we'd be looking at a totally different sentance. From water bottles at airports to funding his "bros" dog fighting operation, I think Vick will even tell you he's getting what he deserved. Dont be an idiot by defending one.

December 11, 2007  03:51 AM ET

Dude hunters dont strap a rope around a deers neck and hang them till after a deer is dead. Yes hunting is a sport. I think the biggest idiot arguement are those who try and compare sport hunting with killing dogs??? Yes there are hunters that abuse ther rights but your buddy got satification out of killing dogs, and not by shooting them witch is a ton more humain than hanging, drounding, or electrication. Where do you think those streaks and ground beef in the grocery store come from? We unfortunately slaughter animals to feed our nation and world. Talk to me when we start slaughtering domesticated animals for food. Stop writing things cause your making yourself look like a bigger moron.
