My NFL Draft was delayed a week due to laziness. Now, it's back. The college football season is over, and the best players only have one more game to prove themselves. The pro football scene is starting to set the draft positions. Most teams also have shown their needs. The players and teams have made it a lot easier to do these blogs.
1. Miami Dolphins-Glenn Dorsey/DT/LSU: The Phins have all but locked up the number one draft spot, and it is pretty clear who they will take. Dorsey is by far the most talented player in this draft. His amazing combination of speed and power makes him the most talented defensive tackle to come out of the draft since Warren Sapp.
2. New England Patriots (From San Francisco)-Malcolm Jenkins/CB/Ohio State: At first, I thought this was too early for the Pats to take a corner, but Jenkins has great potential, and they may not need him immediately. The Pats won't take McFadden. They never run the ball.
3. Atlanta Falcons-Brian Brohm/QB/Louisville: I really don't need to explain this one. Brohm, former Petrino QB. Knows the system. Matt Ryan sucks. End of story.
4. St. Louis Rams-Jake Long/OT/Michigan: Long is the best fit for the Rams. Orlando Pace is done. The rest of the offensive line sucks badly. Long would be a quick fix if he is as good as the linemen taken early last year. The Rams have the offense built for success. Long may be the missing piece to a deep playoff run.
5. New York Jets-Darren McFadden/RB/Arkansas: The Jets running game is okay. Chris Long may be a better fit for now, but McFadden could play in a two-back system with Thomas Jones and slowly transition into the full-timer. He can give the Jets a needed offensive weapon.
6. Kansas City Chiefs-Ryan Clady/OT/Boise State: Clady is a great lineman and may have been the key to the 2006 miracle season. The Broncos' success comes from Clady's amazing blocking and build-and playing an easy schedule-but mostly the Clady part.
7. Baltimore Ravens-Aqib Talib/CB/Kansas: Talib may be drafted a bit high, but the Ravens made it clear that corner is a big problem. Their backups play like girls, and Chris McAllister and that girl are getting older. Talib needs to play well in the Orange Bowl to solidify himself as a top 10 pick, where I think he deserves to go.
8. Oakland Raiders-Chris Long/DE/Virginia: Long is going to follow in his father's footsteps and be the future of the Raiders' line. He could play both defensive tackle or defensive end in a 4-3. He could really help out an over the hill Raiders defense.
9. Carolina Panthers-James Laurinaitis/LB/Ohio State: Laurinaitis is an animal. He is all over the field. Jon Beason and Laurinaitis could make a bright future for an old Panthers linebackers corps. The Panthers D has fallen off of the map since their Super Bowl team.
10. Chicago Bears-Andre Woodson/QB/Kentucky: It's a given that the Bears will take a QB at one point in this draft. It may be in the first round. It may be on the second day. If Woodson falls to the Bears, they will send in their pick in under 1 minute. This is obvious.
11. Cincinnati Bengals-Sedrick Ellis/DT/USC: Sedrick Ellis is a stud defensive tackle. There are no linebackers that should be considered this high, so Ellis is the way to go. He would help the run defense even though he is not a linebacker.
12. Philadelphia Eagles-Sam Baker/OT/USC: The Eagles still have a very, very bad offensive line. That's why McNabb is always hurt. He gets hit every other play. Baker could fix this offensive line for Kevin Kolb.
13. Denver Broncos-Dan Conner/LB/Penn State: Conner is the best run defender left in the entire draft. He would be a sight for sore eyes for the Broncos.
14. Detroit Lions-Antoine Cason/CB/Arizona: The Lions secondary is the reason why they have fallen off of the face of the earth. Tony Romo, Brett Favre, Tavaris Jackson, and Donovan McNabb have absolutely destroyed them this year. Dre Bly for Tatum Bell was an awful trade.
15. Arizona Cardinals-Vernon Gholston/DE/Ohio State: The Cardinals need to take the best player left on the board. They could easily make the playoffs next year if the defense can perform. With Leinart and Warner, this offense can score. The defense needs to stop people for the Cards to win.
16. Washington Redskins-Calais Campbell/DE/Miami: The Redskins defensive line always has trouble getting to the QB. The secondary is very strong, but the line needs to be able to get pressure or else the secondary will be picked apart.
17. Houston Texans-Jonathan Stewart/RB/Oregon: The Texans have no running game. Ron Dayne is a bust, and Ahman Green is not what he used to be. Stewart has great vision and speed. The Texans need another threat.
18. New Orleans Saints-Reggie Smith/CB/Oklahoma: The Saints defensive backs are terrible. Jason David was a terrible addition. The Colts were glad that he left, however. No wonder they didn't match his offer.
19. Buffalo Bills-Malcolm Kelly/WR/Oklahoma: The Bills need a second receiver for Trent Edwards. Marv Levy has been a great addition as GM. He won't screw this up. Kelly is going to Buffalo.
20. Tennessee Titans-DeSean Jackson/WR/Cal: The Titans need help at every position on offense except for running back. Jackson is a big play threat that could make Vince Young look like a real QB.
21. Minnesota Vikings-Kenny Phillips/S/Miami: The Vikings have to get younger in the secondary. The offense is clearly becoming one of the best in the league. The Vikings need some defensive backs to knock off the Packers.
22. Dallas Cowboys (From Cleveland)-Adarius Bowman/WR/Oklahoma State: The Cowboys got this pick for the number 22 last year. The Browns are surprisingly good this year and may have gotten the better deal. The Cowboys can replace the old Terry Glenn with Bowman.
23. Tampa Bay Buccaneers-James Hardy/WR/Indiana: Hardy is a beast. He has great speed and great size. If he played at LSU or Ohio State, he would be being worshipped. The Bucs would get a steal if they take Hardy here.
24. San Diego Chargers-Frank Okam/NT/Texas: Okam is the only true nose tackle that deserves to be taken in the first round. The Chargers could use a bit of depth at defensive line, especially if the line continues to be injury prone.
25. New York Giants-Keith Rivers/OLB/USC: I'm guessing that Michael Strahan retires this offseason. Mathias Kiwanuka can move back to defensive end, and Rivers will take his place.
26. Jacksonville Jaguars-Limas Sweed/WR/Texas: Limas Sweed has fallen mightily. His injury dropped him from the top 10 to a borderline first rounder. Jacksonville has no wide receivers, however, and Sweed would be a good fix.
27. Seattle Seahawks-Early Doucet/WR/LSU: The Seahawks have improved by going to a passing offense. Alexander is getting old, but wide receiver may be a bigger need. Hasselbeck is still a premiere QB. Doucet could become a premiere receiver.
28. Pittsburgh Steelers-Tyson Jackson/DE/LSU: The Steelers need to get some defensive ends that could play in the 4-3. Mike Tomlin will transition the Steelers to his system.
29. Green Bay Packers-Mike Jenkins/CB/South Florida: Mike Jenkins is a great cover corner. Tony Romo destroyed this secondary. Woodson and Harris are old. Corner is their biggest need.
30. San Francisco (From Indianapolis)-D.J. Hall/WR/Alabama: Hall is a speedy wide receiver. Alex Smith may be able to play well if he had a real target.
31. Dallas Cowboys-Dwight Lowery/CB/San Jose State: Lowery had Colt Brennan's number when he took on Hawaii. The Cowboys need some real corners so backup QBs (Aaron Rodgers, anyone?) don't pick them apart. Once they lose the Super Bowl to the Patriots or Colts and Brady/Manning throws for 400 yards, they will know they have a problem.

36. New York Jets-Mario Manningham/WR/Michigan

38. Baltimore Ravens-Jeff Otah/OT/Pittsburgh
39. Oakland Raiders-Keenan Burton/WR/Kentucky
40. Carolina Panthers-Red Bryant/NT/Texas A&M
41. Chicago Bears-Rashard Mendenhall/RB/Illinois
42. Cincinnati Bengals-Xavier Adibi/LB/Virginia Tech
43. Philadelphia Eagles-John Carlson/TE/Notre Dame

Report Offensive CommentI disagree with the Patriot's first round pick. Sure Asante may be leaving, but they have had trouble getting the running game starter and you know Belichick wants to get a running back to help Brady out when the weather gets bad here in New England.

Report Offensive CommentSo...in the second round, since the Panthers take Mario Manningham at No. 40, after the Jets took him at No. 36, does that mean the Panthers have to buy beer for everyone at the draft?
Cherilus and Matt Ryan are consensus top 20 picks, and Ali Highsmith is considered a first-rounder, yet they fall into the second round...Not seeing that.
Frank Okam to the Steelers! The Chargers have a great NT - Jamal Williams is one of the best if not the best pure nose tackle in the game. Have them draft someone else, I want Okam!

Report Offensive CommentEy, your QB completes over 70 percent of his passes, and could go the entire game without running the ball. Why on earth would you need ANOTHER running back, especially at the No. 2 overall pick?
I do agree though, I don't think they'd take a corner that high. Let's keep in mind, they have a few guys to re-sign this off-season, they're not going to let a veteran like Samuel go if they are going to spend about as much on a rookie.
I think they need a linebacker to provide some youth there, but clearly, they don't have any problems with who they have. My guess is we're going to hear a ton of rumors and planted stories about who they are scouting to drum up interest in a top five player, trade down to around 10 or so, take a solid contributor like Laurinitis, and get another pick or two. Maybe even another first round pick next year.
If they learned anything this year, it's that those can be used to buy their way out of trouble.

Report Offensive CommentI fixed it. Bryant is a good fit for a bad defense. Ryan sucks badly. In the game he "clinched" the Heisman, he threw for a 48.1 completion % and 2 TDs and 2 INTs. He also threw 3 INTs against Florida State and 2 against Notre Dame.

Report Offensive CommentPetrino is leaving the Falcons and going to Arkansas so Brian Brohm won't get picked BECAUSE of Petrino's system, BUT BECAUSE THE FALCONS NEED A QB.

Report Offensive CommentIrish. I like most of your picks. However don't be surprised to see Sweed be taken by Tennessee. He played with VY10 and the Titans are rebuilding the team around VY. Tell me what you think of this.
P.S. I'm liking Matt Ryan in the 2nd round. BUST.

Report Offensive CommentGood job on the picks. The only thing is that is strahan does retire than Kiwi will stay at lb and Justin Tuck will end up taking that other end spot.

Report Offensive CommentI love your pick for the Jets, im a Jets fan and Thomas Jones sucks, Mcfadden is exactly wht the Jets are missing, he and Clemons could lead them too a 8 or 9 win season next year.
