Welcome Boys & Girls to the "You Know What Really Grinds My Gears (YKWRGMG) - Welcome to Winter" Edition.
Yes, once again its the time of year from the Pacific Northwest, to Colorado (The Sunshine State), across the Plains to the Northeast that Mr. Snowflake and 1 billion of his closest relatives come back to visit.
In the spirit of giving, Tom Brady gave Steeler safety, Anthony Smith, a lesson in guarantees...the only 3 guarantees in life are death, taxes, and crappy Tim Allen Christmas movies.
Remember when you were a kid growing up and you played the continuous game with your parents of "Find your Xmas presents early" and what a tease it was for your parents moving the presents? Apparently that's how the Twins, Yankees, Red Sox, and ESPN feel like treating the baseball watching public in regards to Johan Santana. He's going to the Yankees...he's going to the Sox...staying with the Twins....hey maybe the Mets are in the mix too. There is one thing for certain, even if nothing happens, Santana won't need to worry about what Santa brings him this holiday season, he'll just buy it after he gets a fat contract.
Speaking of fat contracts, it looks like Michael Vick won't be enjoying as much of that 2001 contract money as he had hoped after receiving a 23 month sentence for operating a dog fighting operation. Honestly, I think this is a good thing for Vick. It gives him a chance to realize his wrongs, atone for them, and focus himself on getting ready for football after his prison term. He can work on his upper body, midsection and legs...I mean he'll have the time...teams could even mail their playbooks for him to study while he's not in the yard. Hopefully, the prison will start a inter-prison football league. Though if they do that, I think in the spirit of fairness and even teams, Vick will have to start out at another position...tight end perhaps and as the season progresses, he may leave prison as a split end. It's really a shame though that other crimes against dogs go unpunished.
God seems to be seeking out punishment against
and the 2007 Dolphins. Miami, the only franchise to have a season without a loss appears to be destined to also be the 1st franchise to also have a winless season. To add insult to injury, their divisional opponent, New England seems to be prime to sweep not only the divisional matchup but erase the one thing that the '72 Dolphins are remembered for. The one saving grace for Miami is that the Dolphins and New England are both .500 in their matchups together for the past 10 years. Somehow, I find the situation this season is set up to be providence and see an upset in the making that saves the Dolphin's crowning achievement and saves them also from utter humiliation. I don't really expect it to happen, and at this point of the season, I say, why worry? Many people want to blame Cam Cameron for this season, but to be honest, this franchise has been on a downward slide for awhile.
Speaking of those Patriots, alot is being made of this Jets/Patriots rematch. To be honest, I really haven't been paying too much attention to this...all I've really heard is Bill Belichick stating to the media "I plan to have my players play the Jets like I treat my potatoes."
Now, onto what really grinds my gears:
#1. Shawne Merriman - Stop complaining. The talking heads are making a mockery out of you. You may not be having the season like last and you've gone back to your "Lights Out" dance but if you want publicity, get it from your play on the field...the kind you're getting today & yesterday is making me wish you were still using your supplements.
#2 Les Miles & the media - Like a bad cold, you keep coming back. Don't you have a game for the National Championship in a few weeks? Focus on that, less on the Michigan job...we all know you're interested, but stop giving the talking heads and the fans of LSU more reasons to think you'll Sabanize Louisiana State U.
#3 Bill Belichick & Darth Vader comparisons - Seriously.... This is Bill
This is Darth
As you can see, one is gainfully employed...the other is a lazy **** with anger control problems because he never had a father figure in his life.
#4 Winter drivers north of the Mason-Dixon line - Winter really doesn't sneak up on anyone yet many of you seem to forget both how to drive & how to prepare for winter. Going to & coming home from work I saw 10 people spin out into ditches and 1 of you managing to flip your car onto its roof on the interstate. Slow down, give yourself extra time, and brake early. 4WD shouldn't give you an expectation that you won't go off the road...4 of your wheels are just able to turn, it does nothing to actually keep you on the road if you're going to fast for them.
Happy Kwanukahxmas kiddies. Stay frosty, stay safe.
