The golden rule in fantasy sports is that no one cares about your team, except for you. I am going to ignore that rule and vent about one of my teams getting eliminated in the playoffs this past week. I am only mentioning this because many other teams probably went down the same way: Adrian Peterson.
I pulled out all of the stops this week. I started Sage Rosenfels over Eli Manning and Jon Kitna. I picked up the Jaguars defense just for their match up against the Panthers. I thought I was golden sitting with close to 100 points and my three running backs remaining. After Peterson and Kolby Smith combined for one point, and my opponent got a huge game out of Drew Brees, I saw my season come to an end. Not even Joseph Addai’s huge night could help me.
This brings up two important lessons in fantasy football. One is that hindsight is 20/20, and because of this, you shouldn’t kick yourself for starting Peterson and Smith against bad defenses. The second lesson is to have a short memory. For those of you who are lucky enough to have advanced despite Peterson’s bad day, don’t even think about benching him this week. The only thing you can do each week is to put yourself in the best position to win and he does that. Now if you’re looking for an upgrade for your weaker positions, that’s where I can help with this week’s waiver wire wonders.
