Hello there. The topic today is the "fight" between Tyrus Thomas and Troy Murphy in last night's game. I saw it, and I thought it was completely hilarious. And out of habit, I had to pick a winner of this "fight" and I realized it had to be Thomas. Sorry Murphy fans (all 10 of you), but your boy lost. But that's not what I'm writing for.
I am writing about their possible consequences. We all remember the infamous fight between the Pacers and Pistons at the Palace of Auburn Hills all that time ago. It was a dark night for the league, and I had the misfortune to be watching that game when the fight broke out. Bad times. And while we think that all of that is behind us, the actual event may be, but the results of it aren't.
Because of Thomas's and Murphy's little spat, I fear that their punishment (with proof of other scuffles of the past) will be amplified. But I don't like that. Here's why. I think that the punishment of these guys and anyone else should be reasonable because of what they did. And while that's partially true right now, it seems that the base/lowest punishment has risen across the board, and that's not fair. Even the smallest of incidents heave a big price, depending on the stage of the season (beginning or crunch time). Should everyone really be punished for what a few guys did? True, there should be no fighting in the first place, but every once in a while folks lose their heads, it happens to everybody. Or maybe it just happens to me, and the few guys that fought.
I don't know, maybe I'm thinking too much about it, or not enough. But I can't wait to see what kind of punishment these guys get. Since these kind of things always vary between situations, the number of games suspended they get may please me (like it matters). But let's not get carried away.
Okay, that's my rant/concerns for the week. Thanks for reading.
