I couldn't believe my ears when I listened to Bud Selig's press conference today! Major League Baseball's Commissioner had three days to read the Mitchell Report and all its details on the sport's Steroid Era. He said he didn't get through it.

But at least he humbly accepted his role in the explosion of the use of steroids. Oh, wait. He didn't do that either. "Well, you know, hindsight is wonderful," he weaseled. He claimed to respect Senator George Mitchell and Mitchell's finding that Selig was at least partly at fault, but "there are a lot of people in baseball who clearly feel differently...It's time to move forward."

It was Selig's equivilant of the Mark McGwire protest, "I don't want to talk about the past."

As for the players' past, that's a different matter. Selig is apparently going to hold players accountable for their mistakes. He vowed to "deal with the active players identified by Senator Mitchell as users of performance enhancing substances."

So while he won't address his misteps, he'll punish the players for theirs...unless he doesn't. "Discipline of players will be determined on a case-by-case basis."

As far as I can tell, Bud Selig's courage is a lot like Human Growth Hormone. When tested, it's undetectable.

Good post. Bud is the poorest excuse for a leader there can be, but he's the perfect puppet for the billionaire owners. This just furthers his "weasleness".

Trust me, Bud Selig has NO friends anywhere in baseball. I can honestly tell you he has NONE in D.C.!!!
I mean, this is the man who basically, remains the "de facto" owner of the Milwaukee Brewers. Sure, his daughter's listed as the "president" of the club...but c'mon, we BOTH know who's running the show there.
Also, "Butthead Bud" oversaw the near-extinction of the Expos at the hands of Jeffrey Loria. And Loria's "golden parachute"?? His consolation prize?? Yep, ownership...of the Marlins!! Deja vu??
So, why should THIS surprise anyone??

Not surprised, DC Sports Nut, just extremely disappointed. Thanks for posting!
