The Motor City Bowl, the crown jewel of the bowl season, is up next for the Purdue Boilermakers. In a year of ups and downs the MCB might be a decent building block for a fairly young defense (4 Sr.) looking for signs of improvement. And, with recent bowl bids coming up short (2-4 since 2000), it may be time for Joe Tiller to reverse his fortunes.
This year's installment of the MCB is a rematch between the Boilermakers and Central Michigan Chippewas, a game the Purdue won handily. Everyone always says that it's tough to beat the same team twice in one year, but, honestly, Purdue has to like its chances. If it can eliminate the 5 turnovers that let CMU back into a game that was 24-0 at the end of the first quarter, Purdue has to be optimistic.
On offense, if they can run the ball effectively the sky is the limit. If Joe Tiller, however, decides to throw on every down, the game could get close. Defensively, contain CMU QB Dan LeFevour and you've got a great chance at winning. All things considered, I'd say Purdue 38- 17 sounds reasonable.
If you're not into Purdue, I'd say this might be a game worth watching. It should be a fairly good offensive showing for both teams and might just turn into that classic bowl week shootout.
