As the college football season opens up with schools in new conferences word comes of more schools trying to change conferences for money. The Pac 8 became the Pac 10 by adding the two Arizona schools. OK, at least they're close by & in the same time zone. but then they added this year Utah & Colorado. Pacific? The water closest to University of Utah is the Great Salt Lake & the water closest to Boulder, Colorado is at the Coors brewery.
But Texas & Oklahoma? WTF? And oh, BTW-they want to talk to Texas Tech & Oklahoma State also. yeah, the Pac 16 in which at least half the schools will be nowhere near the Pacific Ocean. Why not just call it the We Want Cash Conference? Hell, Boise State makes more sense. At least they're in the same time zone.
It was originally suggested that Texas & Oklahoma really wanted to join the SEC, which at least makes more sense, but all these super conferences are a bad idea. Message to these schools: You can't all win the conference. And travel. It's one thing to travel from Austin to Norman to Lubbock, but to LA,SF & Seattle? That gets expensive.
This sounds like an attempt to create a college version of the NFL & that's not right. As a Bay Area native & resident it might be fun to have Stanford & Cal play those schools more often, but then again, it makes the Rose Bowl harder to get in.
A conference with Pac in the title should only have west coast teams. You know, colleges that are actually near the ocean. I know, "You're a purist". IT's college. It should be purer than the pros.
