What an afternoon for Detroit sports! This time of year always seems to provide some great moments for the Motor City and yesterday was no different with the Wings, Pistons, and Tigers all posting victories.
Yesterday afternoon's Wings-Sharks game was another thriller. When the Sharks scored early in the 1st I know myself and a lot of other Wings fans got a little down. But as they had done before in this series, the Wings found a way to battle back. The main reason for the win was the spectacular play of the Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom line, which combined for 8 points on the afternoon. It's amazing how much Homer was missed. You really don't know what you have until it's gone.
Losing Mathieu Schneider for the duration of the playoffs stings, but this team has dealt well with adversity all season long. It sounds like Brett Lebda will be back in the lineup after suffering an ankle injury in Game 5 of the Calgary series. He doesn't possess Schneider's shot but it will be a big boost to have him back. Hopefully the Wings can finish off the Sharks tomorrow night and get ready for Pronger, the Niedermayers, and the rest of the Anaheim Ducks.
I didn't get to watch the Pistons game as it wasn't broadcast here but the 95-69 final score was a much wider margin than I had expected. I was expecting both teams to be around 70 or 80 points, especially with all the great defenders in the series. It was great to see Jason Maxiell contribute with 12 points off the bench. I've heard people say it before but this team seems much more prepared for the playoff run than last year's team. It's encouraging to see and hopefully they can keep the momentum going against Ben and the rest of the Bulls.
To top off the day, the Tigers defeated the Royals 7-5. Joel Zumaya was injured though, which put a bit of a damper on things (hopefully he hasn't been playing Guitar Hero again!). I didn't see this one either, but I did get to see them beat up on the Royals again this afternoon. You know it's a good day when Neifi Perez hits a 3 run homer!
I even heard some good things from the Lions mini-camp! Johnny Baldwin sounds like he is going to be the steal of the draft at MLB! I guess I shouldn't get ahead of myself. We need to wait until we actually see what they can do. But we can still be optimistic!
Hopefully there will be many more days like this in the near future for our Detroit sports teams. I'm looking forward to celebrating multiple championships this year!

Tigers are starting to roll like it's 2006 ... that's 7 wins in a row.
Their schedule is certainly helping: An off day last Thursday ... a 3-day sweep of the Royals Friday to Sunday ... and an off day tomorrow on Monday. Nice.
