A different hero every game. Today it's Hecht, last game it's Drury and Max, tomorrow it'll be someone else. That's one of the great things to love about the Sabres, when the team is in need a different guy steps up each time, because each player is ready when the team needs them. While Miller looked shaky for a lot of Game 6 today, the team gave him 5 goals to work with. And since Miller carried the team through most of the series, it was a much deserved respite.
For some strange reason, Ottawa just does not strike fear into my bones. First of all, we seem to own them in the playoffs. From Derek Plante's goal in the Ted Nolan era to last year, the Senators have a way of disappearing when facing the Sabres in the playoffs. Hopefully that trend continues this year. Then you have Ray Emery. While he has stood on his head for the Sens so far these playoffs, he's still Ray Emery. What a break from facing Henrik and the Rangers. Finally some open hockey with a subpar goalie on the other end can be looked forward to. Lastly, I can't help but remember the two games at the end of Februrary, "The Brawl Series" when the Sabres had a team full of Rochester Americans and split the series 1-1, beating the Senators in our building and then coming within a goal of them in Ottawa. The Sabres are just a deeper team.
So bring on the Sens, and hopefully by the end of the series we'll see Lindy Ruff and Bryan Murray actually duke it out.
Better days...
