With todays finalization of Kosuke Fukudome's 4 year 48 million dollar contract earlier this morning (12/19) a new era has started in Wrigleyville, and all the northside altogether. Finally a right fielder that has speed, a good glove and bats from the left side. Jim Hendry has again shown off his excellence as GM without even an owner to back up his goals and moves. Truly I feel that F-DOME's attributes will crossover into the different ball game that is Major League Baseball. For those who do not know about Fukudome's statistics in the land of the rising sun, he was the 2006 Central League MVP and has lead the Japanese baseball league both in average and OBP in a handful of seasons while maintaing a stellar mitt, with 4, count them, 4 gold gloves with the Chiunchi Dragons. Notably he was 4-11 w/ 2 HRs while playing in 2006's World baseball classic, showing that when the wind is blowing out, Fukudome is a threat to put a few balls into Sheffield Ave. Hopefully F-DOMEs on base percentage will be an interesting addition to a few Cubs rallys, as he will most likely fit into the 2,4 or 5 hole in the order. From the 2 slot, he'll see a lot of fastballs and from the 4 or 5 spot Fukudome will break up the right handed bats of Derek Lee and Aramis Ramirez. This late December signing has warmed a young mans heart in the dead of winter and hopefully will warm Chicagos bats next summer.
Sending for my Japanese Flag right now,
