2007 is winding down and you know these lists will be everwhere so I wanted to get the jump on them. Here's my top 10 sports stories of the year. No particular order:

#1Michael Vick Sentenced for Dogfighting-

Is there anyone on the planet that hasn't heard this story? (sound of crickets) good. Let's move on.

#2 NBA Official Bet on Games

I've heard all the griping about NBA games being fixed. Blah, blah, blah. Now I guess they were right. Just what the NBA didn't need. They already have a poor reputation for "thuggery". And we thought it was the players. Tim Donaghy, who knew? Well, players say they knew it, for one.

#3 Belichick Filming Opponents' Defensive Signals

This one was huge. But for me it never really seemed that big a deal. Does it really give you an advantage? I mean teams change their signals all the time anyway. They've stopped doing it, and they're still winning. So that says a lot right there.

#4 Steroids in Baseball

For me, just another reason to write the sport off. You young kids probably don't remember the last strike. But it just sickened me to see billionaire owners and millionaire players fighting over money. I knew that in the end it would be the fans who got screwed. Now this. Disgusting.

#5 Stanford 24, USC 23 NCAA football

Wow. Now this was a stunner. I remember back in the preseason when the so called experts said USC was so good it almost wasn't fair. They were in a league of their own. That's one of the best things about NCAA sports. Upsets will happen. Guaranteed. Monster upsets, too. Not just a 6-7 team beating a 7-6 team, but a team who is a double digit underdog playing the game of their life and winning when no one thought they could.

#6 Boise St 43, Oklahoma 42

Hard to believe that game was almost a year ago. January 1, 2007. That was flat out the greatest football game I've ever seen. The Boise St WR throwing a TD pass was amazing, but the 2 pt conversion on a statue of liberty play was genius. Imagine the set of kahones it took to call that play!! And of course, the Boise St player proposing to his girlfriend afterwards. Sure beats Joe Horn pulling a cell phone out of the goal post pads.

#7 Pats Undefeated

Whatever happened to parity in the NFL? Oh well, we needed a new team to hate. You just know every kid from the age of 7-14 will be Pats fans all the sudden. That bandwagon must be getting crowded. Hell, how do you think I became a Steeler fan? Yeah, Bradshaw and Franco were winning all those Super Bowls when I was that age. That was a crowded bandwagon back then too!

#8 Appalachian State Upsets Michigan!

You knew this was coming after I listed Stanford/USC. Everybody hates a winner and since Michigan is the winningest program of all time everybody couldn't wait to "get all up in Michigan's kool-aid". They took a LOT of abuse. Appalachian State is not a push over. Michigan isn't the only D1 team they could beat.

#9 Trinity University defeats Milsaps College

Huh? This game wouldn't normally make anyone's list no matter who won. And it isn't who won. It's HOW they won. This is the game you saw on YouTube. The last play of the game. Trinity University laterals the ball 15 times. The play takes a full minute to cover the 67 yards to the endzone and football infamy. If you haven't seen this on YouTube you owe it to yourself to check it out. Just listening to the announcers is worth it.

#10 Kevin Everett Walks

This may not make many lists, but I just love this story. Especially this time of year. It was on the cover of SI and made a great read. I still think it's a miracle of God.

So there it is. What stories would you add?
