It amazes me how inconsistent so many NFL teams are these days. How can a team like the Bengals follow such a big time win over the defending Superbowl Champs in Pittsburgh with an absolute butt whoopin' to the Patriots and a sub-par performance against the winless Bucs? On that same note, the Giants have quickly rebounded from that beat down from the Seahawks and have won big games against the Redskins at home and on the road against the Falcons. I understand the concept of parity, but wow.
There are countless examples similar to those above of teams winning one week, losing the next, looking like the eventual Champs to the following week looking like a high school team. This brings me to the key point of almost all of my blogs, the New England Patriots. Taking into consideration everything that we know about inconsistency in the NFL, it makes it that much more impressive that the Patriots were able to win an NFL record 21 games in a row from early 2003 through mid 2004 and accumulate a gaudy 34-4 record and two Superbowl Championships from 2003-2004(this still gives me chills an an overall fuzzy feeling inside). Another stat that is ridiculously impressive is the fact that this team has not lost two consecutive games in almost 4 years(53 straight games)!!!
I've seen a lot of resentment of Pats fans on many fan sites for their swagger and their belief that Lord Belichick and the Pats organization is one step ahead of everyone else, but c'mon. With stats like these, who can argue that the Pats just seem to "get it" better than anyone else?

i guess the inconsistency of teams just goes to show you how evenly matched every team is. Anyone can beat anyone on any given sunday. Hows that for a cliche? Anyway, its true. When 53 guys are clicking, they are going to be tough to beat no matter what the logo is on the uniform. When 53 guys go into a week thinking the game is already won, then they panick and eventually fail. The magical thing about the pats is that they clearly treat every game more important than the last. Most teams get complacent and come up short in games they should win. Its just human nature to not give 100% if you don't feel like you have to, as sad as that seems

As much as I hate the Pats (yeah, I'm a Steelers fan), it does seem like they're almost always prepared to play. I don't know if it's better game planning, more emphasis on week to week focus, or what it is, but they seem to quickly overcome all obstacles that have come their way in the last few seasons. Hopefully that'll stop someday and I can watch them lose consistently...*sigh*

Yep, Belichick is good at keeping the team hungry, and making sure they are ready for every challenge. It also helps that they have great veteran leadership. I think that's something a lot of teams lack.
