On a memorial September 11th Sunday, we all paid tribute to those who rendered their services, and loss their lives to aid those who fell victim to the September 11th attacks that took place 10 years ago. It was a memorial Sunday indeed for an event in American history that will never be forgotten. September 11th also marked the beginning of this year???s NFL season for most of the NFL teams, and boy was it a great start. I start off talking about Cameron, yes Cam Newton!! With a ton of speculation which led from his days as an Auburn Tiger, and a lot of doubt Cam Newton came out as resilient as ever and did what he knows how to do best and that's play football!! He put on a remarkable show, throwing for 422 yards on 24 for 37 passing which set a record for rookies in an NFL opener and also ran for 18 yards as well despite a loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He also threw one interception. To match his intensity, it seemed that Steve Smith was rejuvenated to start the season with his new QB. On the other side of the ball recently acquired Kevin Kolb from the Philadelphia Eagles finally got his starting job with the Arizona Cardinals and he did not disappoint, throwing for 309 yards and 2 touchdowns, on 18 for 27 passing. This was an unexpected showing from both quarterbacks, but a great way to start our NFL season. There were a lot of fans paying tribute, and cheering on their teams to victory, and some scowling at defeat. Chicago showed us that they took their season opener as serious as ever, with an impressive defensive show blowing out the Atlanta Falcons, as did the Ravens against the Steelers forcing 7 turnovers which included 3 interceptions thrown from Ben Roethlisberger. A fully healthy Matt Stafford connecting with Calvin Johnson proved to be too much for the Buccaneers as the Lions got there first season opener win since 2007. With Peyton Manning out there wasn't much to wonder as the Texans blew the Colts out in one of the worst blow outs in Colts' history. There was a lot going on the Sunday season opener. The Philadelphia Eagles, after a slow start started to mesh and beat an injured St. Louis Rams team, behind last year???s Comeback Player of the Year in Michael Vick. Steven Jackson who ran for a 47 yard TD on the first drive for the Rams later got injured and would not return, which brought in Cadillac Williams, who early on showed that he was a great pick up for St. Louis. The night was rounded out by The New York Jets against the Dallas Cowboys in what was to some a draining game, but a good one none the less. With the game tied late at 24 an untimely intercepted pass from Tony Romo gave the Jets all the time and space needed to beat the Cowboys 27-24 behind a Folk fieldgoal. Darrelle Revis gave Romo his only interception of the game, but he only needed one as Revis returned it 20 yards to the Dallas 34. With all that happened on Sunday we will top off week 1 with, New England at Miami, and Oakland at Denver. With that and more football to come, this should be a great season and I'm looking forward to every minute of it!!
