I'm not questioning the decision to fire Skiles. He's not the kind of coach who was going to lead the Bulls to a world championship even if they had the talent to do it. He definitely needed to go. But axing him mid-season and turning over the coach's chair to an assistant for the rest of the season is just as dumb as keeping him. The Bulls have let everyone down this year as all their players have become a laughing stock. We already knew Ben Gordon was a train wreck who only knew how to turn the ball over at the end of games and cannot learn from his own mistakes. But Hinrich, Wallace, Deng and Thomas have all fallen very very short of what was expected of them this year.
It's too easy to just point the finger at Skiles and hope things will get better because they won't. This Bulls team has problems at every level. The players stink, the coaching was very weak, player-management decisions were highly suspect, and the owner could not possibly care how many games the team wins as long as that greedy SOB gets his dollars, of which he already has gazillions. The Bulls have officially thrown in the towel on the 2007-08 season. They will not make the playoffs under Pete Myers with these players and I think any team would be foolish to make a big trade and take some of the Bulls' overpaid underachievers in exchange for actual talent. I say FIRE John Paxson, who was STUPID enough to not make the Kobe trade when he had a chance, get Ben Gordon, Ben Wallace and Kirk Hinrich the hell out of Chicago, bring in a SERIOUS coach who has actually won before and knows how it's done, and sign a marquee superstar that can actually lead the team deep into the playoffs.
But none of that is going to happen anytime soon. Thanks so much Jerry Reinsdorf. Merry f***ing Christmas.
