Significance of the Ravens Game

The Steelers are locked in to the playoffs, with one game to go. Pittsburgh is currently in the 4th seed spot, which would pit them against Jacksonville again (at Heinz Field). The only other possibility is for Pittsburgh to beat Baltimore on Sunday AND have San Diego lose to Oakland. If that happens, Pittsburgh would be the 3 seed, facing Tennessee or Cleveland next weekend. Both games kick off at 4:15.
This situation puts Mike Tomlin in an interesting dilemma. Should he play his starters, hoping to keep them fresh for next week? Or, should he rest them and assume S.D. will take care of business out west? Personally, I think Tomlin needs to do some scoreboard-watching from the sidelines on Sunday. If Oakland manages to play a close game with the Chargers (unlikely), then Pittsburgh wouldn't want to miss the chance to avoid Jacksonville. Then again, you might think our backups would be good enough to defeat the Ravens, who lost to the lowly Dolphins. If San Diego takes a big lead early, get Big Ben and anyone else with any injury concerns whatsoever out of that game. The Ravens would love nothing more than to injure a star player to hurt our playoff chances, especially if the game is meaningless. Although Bart Scott did take back his wish to "kill" Hines Ward, it would be a good idea to keep Hines on the sideline if the game means nothing. The team will be back in action soon enough, and has already had its fair share of injuries.

Chargers are not losing to Raiders. Look for Jags-STEEL part two in about a week from now.
