So Rog has decided to stay un-retired and join the Bronx Bombers. His reasoning, to win. However, ol' Rog's actions often contradict his words. When things soured in Boston, his words indicated he wanted to come home to Texas (with both the Rangers and Astros showing some interest). Contract with the Blue Jays...um they is about as far away from Texas as you can get and still be in the same country....nope wait a minute...it's not even the SAME country...! Chalk that one up to money. After a good run in Toronto, Rog wanted to come back to Texas, again, but he was under contract and the Jays had to work out a trade...with the caveat the Rog would renegotiate his contract upwards. Basically, give up prospects in a trade and negotiate a free agent contract. Wow, what GM wouldn't want to jump on that. So Rog goes to the Bombers. And gets one of his wishes, the World Championship. Was even going to go into Cooperstown in a Yankees cap, or he wasn't going to go in at all. So Rog retires, until the 'Stros come along with a wheelbarrow full of money and special "superstar" rules. And Rog takes the money, even helping get the 'Stros there 1st playoff series win and to their first World Series. But after a year where he got less support than a pair of worn out pantyhose, he needed time to decide. Decide what? The biggest paycheck? If you want to win, wouldn't you pick the team with the better record? Or do you think it is easier for the Bombers to catch the Sox that it is for the 'Stros to catch the Brewers? Doesn't sound like winning, sounds like money. Do I fault ol Rog? Not in making a decision that he feels is best for him, more power to him. But at least call it the way it is. Because this one is not passing the sniff test.
