A Brutal Saturday

The ugly Pitt loss was only the beginning of a very painful evening for many area fans. The Panthers seem to have lost their star point guard Levance Fields for an extended period of time after a freak injury last night. Pitt played horribly, Dayton caught fire, and Pitt lost its first game this season. All hopes of making a March run seem to have signifcantly dimished after two of Pitt's three backcourt studs are out for awhile. Fields' leadership in particular is something the team needs. Details on the injury are very sketchy but reports say he will miss 3 games, a month, or the whole season. The headline at Pitt Blather says it all: Oh, Crap. More on that when we find out more about it. Pitt faces Lafayette Wednesday at the Pete.

The Giants gave us hope last night but New England pulled out another victory to finish a perfect 16-0. New York played stunningly well in a meaningless game and led by two scores late in the 3rd. Still, the mighty Patriots rallied late behind the amazing Brady and Moss, blah blah blah. At least they don't play for two weeks now so maybe the media will quit yapping.

Penn State won the Alamo Bowl last night. Personally, (granted, I am a huge Pitt fan) I think it was an unimpressive showing for the Lions. They barely beat a 6-loss team that didn't even have a coach. Still, I'll hold back any more Pitt-PSU football arguments for next year when Pitt will dominate.

Steelers-Ravens will kick off in a few minutes in a game that probably won't matter. Many Steelers are sitting out today.

BallHype: hype it up!
