That is going to happen folks, I see the country divided into 4 regions each with its own sub-divisions, the national championship will be decided by having the champion of each region play each other in an NCAA basketball tournament scenario.
Are you fallowing me on this?
Doesn't it look like that's where all this moving around is leading to.
Would you agree that within ten years the mega-conferences will be a reality thus allowing the big time -U-to carve themselves a little more of the -DOLLAR PIE-,we can all agree they're all looking for a more efficient way to earn revenues. (unless your Alabama's head coach who said nobody makes MONEY in college football)
Love to hear comments specially from the folks who argue that there is no money being made in college football.
Yep no profit is being made, God how can they survive.
Enough said.

First off I don't really follow college sport, but I have been skimming articles about the possible mergers, realignments, and out right bolting of teams in college football and I agree the landscape is changing and one day there will be only a few conferences. You see this happening in business a lot too, companies consolidate and buy out competitors for the larger share of the pie.
But in college sport is this really an issue? From what you said it sounds like you are against such a move, which is fine your opinions are just as valid as mine, but I don't quite see how it is bad. You still have the same number of schools playing the same number of games.
The Bowl games may suffer in some way, but I honestly never understood how that worked. The #1 ranked team plays the #4 (in some scenarios) ranked team for the championship without playing either the #2 or #3 ranked teams, how does that happen? And honestly to say the Bowl games are "tradition" anymore is a joke, once they became known only by their corporate sponsors rather then the traditional names like the Rose Bowl that whole argument is shot out of the water. I know the Rose Bowl is still the Rose Bowl, but the idea is still the same.

I hear everybody is saying that all BCS conferences will have 16 teams some day. However I hope that does not happen; and I do not think it is a good idea. Remember the WAC had 16 teams once. In football the WAC 16 had four divisions with a complicated non-divisional rotation schedule.
With a larger conferences you have more teams to try to keep happy. The reason why the Big 12 is breaking up is because everyone is not happy. The reason WAC 16 broke up is because they could not keep everyone happy. Sounds like the Big East is breaking up, because it is getting too big, and can not keep everyone happy.
I think a 12 team conference is a perfect number (maybe 14 would work), but not 16 teams.

It will all be about money...if the revenue sheering works out there may be 16 teams per region divided in four conf???is just a matter of working the money part and look for the NCAA to be dismantled..
