What is a TROLL? What, and who determines WHO is trolling here on Fannation? Let's start with the origins of the troll:
The "trollface" or "coolface", is sometimes used to indicate trollingIn Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion. The noun troll may refer to the provocative message itself, as in: "That was an excellent troll you posted". While the word troll and its associated verb trolling are associated with Internet discourse, media attention in recent years has made such labels subjective, with trolling describing intentionally provocative actions outside of an online context. For example, mass media uses troll to describe "a person who defaces Internet tribute sites with the aim of causing grief to families." (Courtesy of WIKI)
So that pretty much sums it up, but what the above statement cannot say is a persons actual INTENT. They say perception is 9/10's of the law, and with that in mind I would have to say after observing the actions of others, I was actually surprised to see people who were trolling, accusing others of TROLLING! The hypocrisy in the chat areas of Fannation is off the charts. Case in point, what happened yesterday in the NCAAF Message Boards.
I'm in the middle of creating an online radio show, and I've been blogging about it for years here, and on other sites I blog on. It's been an on again off again project for the past 10 or 11 years. I finally made the commitment, and started building it. I believe it will be a fun hobby, and you all are more than welcome to participate when it goes live. That being said, I got blasted yesterday for using my new avatar/site as an excuse to troll on the message boards, and BS'n others. That's not what happened. I was in the middle of adding some pictures about everything Mercury, when I simply made a comment on one of MY THREADS I started. So what? OMG, the juvenile head hunters had a field day....lol, shocking that would happen right?! Here's the deal. I have 2 sites here now:
1. Wisconsin Death Trip 2. MERCURY (since been taken down)
BOTH are open sites (at times I blocked them when I was adding items) right now, anyone can come and troll, or can leave an HONEST comment. If I was a TROLL, I wouldn't be dumb enough to have open sites! I was also accused yesterday of using my new page as a feint to obscure my true nature and intentions. SERIOUSLY(?), I'm attempting to hide myself while I openly present my very public pages for everyone to see! LOL, OMG.......
I will say this though, and I openly apologize for it (as I did yesterday on more than a few occasions) that I had "bait and tackled" (a saying some friends and I came up with about 15 years ago to describe getting a chat room discussion going when it stalled out) a few of MY DISCUSSION threads. Threads that I STARTED, not someone else...... It's one thing to inflame the audience on someone else's thread, it's another to do it to yourself! But I still apologized (as I should have) for it, and I won't do it again, even on my own threads.
The other thing I've noticed is something similar to a "POSSE" or "CLICKS" running around the chat boards attacking people for mistakes they make in their reporting. Happened to me yesterday on several occasions. These individuals move around, and HEN PECK everything from grammar and punctuation to source verification demands. They also cut and paste your previous comments, save them (?), and then use them against you at a later time. Borderline, if not all out "stalking" is going on around here too. BIZZARO, and just plain weird/creepy man. Lifes to short to be that @nal people, YIKES! Let's get one thing straight here. A persons OPINION is his own, and DOESN'T need verification. As my father once told me as a kid; "Son, remember, you can never prove an opinion wrong...." If someone wants to believe in Santa Claus, that's their problem...etc. Another problem here is the inability of anyone making a very simple comment such as "I disagree with your statement, and here's why...." or "What is your ACTUAL opinion on this story/comment...." Instead you get ambushed by people acting like juveniles whose claim to fame is they spend hours a day using their English degree, and trolling in their own hypocrisy. What a life style. At least I earned my retirement in the military....YIKES!
In closing, I'm going to say that if I ever offended anyone here, I openly apologize (My father also stated it takes a bigger man to admit he's wronged others....) right here and right now. That was NEVER my intention(s), so let's just start fresh with a clean slate. Also, if I like another sports team, and I show up to make a comment, that's not trolling people!!! That's a fan making a comment about a team they like....so get over it. I don't know how many times that happened to me in the past month alone. "Your a troll, your a troll, your a troll"....grow up people. If I choose to have 2 sites, that's my right, as long as I'm completely honest and open about it, who am I hurting? No one. So if you don't like it, just ignore it, it won't bite you on your way out the door.
