With a lot
of anticipation, and anxiety towards week 3 it was nothing short of high caliber,
classic football. With shockers and, a
ton of excitement here we recap some key games and moments from week 3. Lets start with the Vikings and the
Lions. After Minnesota started the game
out great leading the Lions 20-0 at the half they took their A game with them
to the locker room and left it there.
The Lions stormed back to outscore the Vikings 26-3 in the second half
plus overtime to improve their record to 3-0 while sending the Vikings to
0-3. The Vikings now have been outscored
by their opponents by 60 points to start the season. We head to Carolina where there is a lot of
talk about rookie sensation Cam Newton after throwing for over 850 yards in his
first two games despite losing them both.
With a showing of talent and no wins the talk of Panthers was then, Can
they win? Sunday they proved that they
can beating the Jaguars 16-10 behind 158 passing yards and 1 TD from Cam Newton
despite 122 rushing yards on 24 carries from Maurice Jones-Drew. Now that Carolina has won a game and we have
seen that Cam Newton can throw lets see what this team starts to look like in
the upcoming weeks.
We head to Tampa Bay where the Buccaneers faced off against the Falcons, where
this one could have gone either way. Matt
Ryan completed 26 of 47 passes for 330 yards and one touchdown but fumbled the
ball twice. The Bucs turned one of his
two fumbles inside the Atlanta 20 into a field goal. Nine of Ryans passes went to Pro Bowl WR
Roddy White for 140 yards, but the Falcons could not stop the Bucs despite two interceptions
thrown by Josh Freeman. Freeman scored
his first NFL rushing TD, but the Bucs only scored 3 points in the second half
of the game, but it was all they needed to secure victory. We now head to the city of Brotherly Love,
where the love wasnt so brotherly on Sunday.
The Philadelphia Eagles faced off against their division rivals New York
Giants in a much, much anticipated game.
With the Giants coming into the game with a list of injuries and injured
players, and the Eagles playing Michael Vick after suffering a concussion last
week, they squared off and it was a great game for the Giants as they beat the
Eagles for the first time in 7 tries. The
Giants started the game off hot scoring two unanswered touchdowns in the first
half, but then Philly came back to make it a game after scoring 13 unanswered
points going in at the half down 14-13.
The Eagles came out ready making even more interesting going up 16-13,
but after Michael Vick suffered a hand injury and left the game the Eagles
game left with him. With all the
off-season free agent acquisitions the Eagles organization made, and all the "Dream
Team" talk the Eagles look like theyre in grave danger with no time table on
their famed quarterbacks return and they now hold a 1-2 record currently
sitting at the bottom of the NFC East.
They started the season with Super Bowl aspirations and its still
possible. In fact the last team to win a
Super Bowl after starting the season 1-2 was the New York Giants in 2008.
In Buffalo there was a ton of excitement and a few doubts as the Bills faced
off against the Patriots. Now as a fan I
was thinking sure the Bills are 2-0 but the Patriots are a great team, and for
sure they would beat the Bills, but after 4 interceptions from Ton Brady and a
lot of heart, luck and some great fourth quarter play the Bills came back to
stun the Patriots en route to a 3-0 record.
The last time the Bills started the season 3-0 was in 2008. They finished that season 7-9. We now head to Chicago to a highly
anticipated rivalry game between the Packers and the Bears. The Packers took the first lead and never looked
back after beating the Bears 27-17 despite 302 passing yards, and 2 touchdowns
for Jay Cutler who also threw two interceptions. The Bears have lost 3 consecutive games now
dating back to last season to the Packers and they are now 1-2. There are 3 NFC teams who made the play-offs
last year that are 1-2; The Eagles, the Falcons and the Bears. These three teams lost in the play-offs
consecutively to the eventual Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers. We round out week 3 with the Cowboys against
the Redskins. Tony Romo continues to
show us the heart he had from last week as he played through injury again to
lead his team to victory against NFC East rival Washington Redskins. The Redskins scored the only touchdown in the
game, but it wasnt enough as the Cowboys scored 6 field goals to win it
18-16. Tony Romo threw for 255 yards and
an interception while Rex Grossman who has started the season with doubt from
not only the coaching staff but also the players threw for 250 yards on 22 of
37 passing. He threw for the single
touchdown in the game, but also threw one interception as well.
Week 3 has been a week to remember especially around play-off time. These wins and losses will be looked back on
notably because of the rival games that were played. The NFC East showcased their whole division
against each other and it seems the most unlikely team won. With Minnesota starting the season 0-3 with
newly acquired QB Donovan McNabb it raises questions if he is the right QB for
the job. As the season goes on these
notable wins and losses will paint the perfect play-off picture, and the
eventual Super Bowl Champion. Will it be your team?
