The greatest running back of all-time is not here to defend himself against charges in a soon to be release book about womanizing and drug usage by Jeff Pearlman . Walter has been dead for over 12 years . What kind of coldhearted , money hungry, snake who Payton obviously trusted to be in his inner circle would think of doing this to a man that cannot defend himself . None of us are perfect , we all have faults and secrets we only share with those in our inner circle . If a person didn't care who knew about their flaws they would flaunt it in public for all to see . This man is still beloved by his kids , family , friends and the fans . I'm sure his former coaches and teammates know a thing or two about the women that throw themselves at athletes , movie stars , and politicians , they did it to the 1st man , the strongest man , and the wisiest man they will do anything to get in the bed with you . As a football player in his position Payton took a lot of punishment and gave it back . He like most baseball , basketball , hockey , boxing , football players , are in constant pain and need pain killers . Look at the senior who didn't play sports who suffer with arthritis and need pain medication . Tony Romo got shot up before Monday nights game because of pain to his ribs . Legal drugs from a doctor and not sensationalism regarding his drug use by a writer trying to sell a book . Most of us don't know what it feels like to wake up and limp around like a Mike Ditka , Dick Butkus ,  Jim Brown , or Bo Jackson from football injuries . I'm sure his kids , his family , friends and fans of Walter Payton don't want to hear about his short comings in a book by a bloodsucker . Please don't buy the book written by Jeff Pearlman don't put a dime of your money in his pocket . If Walter Payton wanted to write a tell-all book about his life he would have done it before he passed . Funny my next blog was going to be about the GOAT of running backs in the NFL before the news came out about the book . He is in my humble opinion the GOAT running back in football . RIP

Shame on Jeff Pearlman for writing this book and shame on SI for giving any publicity to it!! It has nothing to do with Walter's accomplishments on the field or the joy that he brought to football fans everywhere!! Mr. Payton was a flawed human being just like the rest of us!! How would Jeff Pearlman's family like it if someone wrote an inflammatory book about his weaknesses after he was gone for 12 years. This is pure fodder that belongs in the Check-out-line gossip rags and not the pages of a supposedly respected sports magazine!! If SI does publish this garbage, I will never pick up a copy of SI or visit their website ever again, and I implore all the readers out there who love sports and respected Walter Payton to follow suit!! Just disgusting what some people will do to make a buck!!

I'm not saying SI is promoting Jeff Pearlman's garbage I'm saying don't buy the book when it's published. I don't think SI has anything to do with this story .The story broke here in Chicago yesterday. Walter Payton deserves better and so does his family, friends, and his fans.

I just saw it on ESPN that SI is going to feature Jeff Pearlman's unconfirmed account of Payton womanizing and drug use. Shame on you SI for buying a story his family and fans don't want to read. I guess SI will do anything to sell magazines. .

Some things are better left unsaid.

Walter Payton was a great football player. Leave it at that.
