Oakland Raiders Fan Group's Blog http://www.fannation.com/blogs/show/344 Fri, 16 Feb 2007 00:20:43 GMT All Raiders talk, all the time. With the first pick in the 2007 NFL draft http://www.fannation.com/blogs/post/5142

Well another year and another draft where the Raiders are picking high. Except this time they are picking first. Boy it seems like just yesterday the raiders were the dominant team in the AFC west. But the times have changed and the Raiders are ready for rebirth under new head coach Lane Kiffen. And no I do not care at all that Kiffen is only 31 years of age it is totally irrelevant to the offensive football knowledge that he brings to the table for the Oakland Raiders.

But to the point now of the NFL draft. It is no mystery that Jamarcus Russell is the sexy pick for the Raiders in 2007. I can argue this choice both ways and I will. The pros of picking a player like Russell are he will be a franchise QB for years to come. His size and arm strength make him just the player the Raiders are looking for and since all offenses are built around the QB it would make sense for them to pick one.

The cons to picking Russell are there will be a maturation process like with any NFL QB coming from college. The only problem is no one knows how long that will be. Secondly it doesn't matter how good Russell is if he doesn't have an offensive line that can hold its own (hint Joe Thomas).

But of course the Raiders already invested a first round pick in a supposed hall of fame offensive tackle named Robert Gallery which has turned into a Hall of Fame mistake. I don't know if trying that again would be worth while for immediate results which are what the Raiders are looking for.

This leads me to the man that could be the best choice for the Raiders in 2007. Calvin Johnson the 6'5'' Wide Receiver from Georgia Tech. Now we all know the Raiders have Randy Moss but he has voiced a lot of unhappiness with the new head coach and the team. Moss really has no place to complain with his performance in 2006 so trade him for all I care. I think it would benefit both parties. I think the receiving trio of Johnson, Porter, and Whitted sounds pretty dangerous no matter who the QB is. And Andrew Walter is a capable QB when he is given time to make decisions in the pocket which I think you will have a hard time arguing.

Both Calvin Johnson and Jamarcus Russell would make an immediate impact for the Raiders in 07 it will be interesting to see what they do in the first round. You never know what good old Al Davis has up his sleeve.

Fri, 16 Feb 2007 00:20:43 GMT http://www.fannation.com/blogs/post/5142 ptoney8 Raiders return to greatness? http://www.fannation.com/blogs/post/1145
Four years removed from our last AFC west championship, and playoff birth for that matter the Raiders have shown their first signs of rebirth this season. Although they do not have a great record to show for this improvment it is still noticable. First round draft pick Nnamdi Asomugha from 2003 has finally begun to make an impact in the Raiders new very fast and physical secondary. This secondary lead by Asomugha is currently ranked 4th in the NFL in pass defense. The Raiders also have two young side line to side line running outside linebackers in Thomas Howard and Kirk Morrison. Who are bring back that tenicious defense the Raiders were known for in their glory days. Not only can they stuff the inside run with their mamoth defensive tackles but they can now run down speedy backs like LT with this new team speed at the linebacker position. They also now have a pass rush (lead by Derrick Burgess)that they havnt had since the days of Trace Armstrong in 2002.

What the Raiders are really missing is offense. Aaron Brooks is the jeckel and heide of the NFL. Some days he looks like a pro-bowler and then other days he looks like a confused scared young boy who can only run for his life. But with the Raiders offensive line any QB would be scared to hang back there. Robert Gallary is the biggest wasted draft pick since Ryan Leaf. Yeah i said it. You notice that the Raiders have a much better offensive attack when he wasnt in their against the Chargers. However rookie right guard Kevin Boothe has stepped in nicly and is blocking very well for the silver and black. The Raiders really need to focus on their line in the offseason. They need a hole new left side of that line. We can win from Grove over. Oh and then their is Randy. What is going on with that man? I think the best move to make with him is a trade. Get a nice first round pick for us to help build up that offense. Besides we have 3 very capable WR's besides Randy (Alvis Whitted, Ronald Curry, and John Madsen). The most glaring part of the Raiders offense that I believe needs to be changed is the Tightend position. You know i have just the answer for that.... Zach Miller Tightend out of Arizona state. Perfect fit for my Raiders.

If you are a Raiders fan please join the Oakland Raiders fan group!!!

Tue, 28 Nov 2006 04:47:59 GMT http://www.fannation.com/blogs/post/1145 ptoney8 Welcome to the Oakland Raiders Fan Group http://www.fannation.com/blogs/post/233 This is your FanNation home for the Oakland Raiders.
