Possible Coaches for the future of NU

I've gotten a few emails regarding the possible future coaches and who might be interested.  I've done a bit of homework this week and have almost come up blank.  I have heard that some feelers have been sent out, but there seems to be no large scale search going on yet, which is in line with TO's statement that he would look at the situation after the season.

One thread that myself and everybody else in Huskerland is completely interested in is the possibility of Bo Pelini coming back.  I heard rumors this week that Bo was contacted, but there was no confirmation.  I did hear it from several different sources, so I am fairly confident that the contact was made.  I think that Bo is probably the best choice, simply due to the fact that he has the desire to prove himself.  He has the fire, the energy, and the confidence to lead a team.  His Tigers at LSU love him, we loved him and most NU fans were ready to string up both Callahan and Pedersen when he was let go.  Especially after what his defense did to us the following season against OU.

Great Rant by John Reeves, General Manager, The Crete News

Fantastic rant.  Wish that I could have come up with something this good.

Dear Former Husker Fans......Comparing the 2007 Huskers to the Titanic has some validity but in hindsight, at least the Titanic had "Some" survivors  .Wow......for the next 20 years, when you "Google" asswhuppin, it's going to re- direct you to the 2007 nightmare in Missouri.

After that Fustercluck, the Huskers are ranked 96th in total Defense ....which is 10 spots lower than Baylor and 52 spots below the Cyclones.  But at least in scoring defense, we rally to 75th.....2 spots below 1 and 5...Notre Dame...... Where is Craig Bohl when you need him? Since 1943, Nebraska's Defense has only surrendered 40 points, 3x in a season......4 times.  And now, the spanky bros, Elmo and Cos have managed to give up 40 in...... 3 of their last 4.....games.

Monday Morning QB

Short and sweet this time around.

There was a change of coaching philosophy in the Husker camp this weekend.  Offensive Coordinator, Shawn Watson, was down on the sidelines actually making calls.  Now, in any other system than ours, this is the way it should be done.  Watson is a guy that the players love and is nearly as good at understanding the plays as Callahan himself.  What it brought to the table was the youthfullness and energy that is needed on the sidelines in order to keep the team motivated.  Coach Callahan may be understanding that there are more than 11 guys on his team that need coaching and that from the beginning he should have had his hands on more of the team.

Another Saturday, Another Beatdown.

Another loss for our aimless Huskers.  Although the Defense did show up for the first half, they were crushed in the 2nd.  That Triple Option thing REALLY WORKS!!  Holy Cow, we stopped using that offense, what 4 years ago, and somebody is still using it effectively???  They have the 8th rated rushing offense in the country.  Didn't we used to dominate in that catagory a few years ago?  Of course we couldn't pass for 2000 yards in a season if the other team stayed off the field, but we can now by God!  The downside is that for some reason we've lost the ability to run the ball.

What happens next?

Now that TO has taken the reigns of the athletic department, his focus will mostly be on the Football team as the rest of the programs seem to be pretty darn good. His major obstacle will be getting Callahans support, and as yet I haven't even heard him mention Tom's name in a news conference. Not the best way to show respect to the man who put this team into orbit with 3 championships to his credit.

Ever since the firing and bringing in Tom, I've been scanning the net, just like all of you, for news on who we might get to replace the existing coaching staff. The one name that keeps popping up is Pelini. It really doesn't matter who the next coach is, except that he has to have the fire in his belly and the desire for greatness. The pieces are already in place for a big run right away, with the talent that Callahan has put together (if you believe the recruiting results). It would be kind of comical if the coach that follows Callahan wins the National Championship the year after he gets the boot. How poor of a coach do you have to be to lose respect in a Pro and a College program?
