The Best Team Is...

I am sure 99% of the country will focus on the fact that Ohio State gave up 17 points rather than the fact they should focus on.  That fact is Ohio State completely shut down the Spartan offense.

The Spartans came into Ohio Stadium with the 15th ranked offense in the country with 467 yards per game.  The Buckeyes allowed 185 yards.  Michigan State also boasted the 9th best rushing attack in the country with 242 yards a game.  The Buckeyes allowed 59 yards rushing.  Now if you aren't impressed with those stats, this one may make you a believer.  The Spartans came in with the 18th ranked scoring offense in the country with 37 points per game.  The Ohio State defense allowed 3, yes 3, points.

THE BCS is not a mess

I have heard a lot of people complain about this weeks edition of the Top 25.  Some say no way Ohio State should be #1.  Some say it's a joke that teams like South Florida and Boston College are ahead of teams like Oklahoma and LSU.  Others just dont know what the hell they are talking about.

I am an Ohio State fan obviously but even I admit there is no way this team should be considered the best team in the country.  I think they deserve a few first place votes but as of now they are not the best team in the country.  But I agree that Ohio State should be #1 based on what teams such as Oklahoma, LSU, and Southern Cal have done recently.

If I was voting in this weeks poll based on the results of last week here would be my top 5.

 1. Ohio State

2.  Oklahoma

3. South Florida

4. LSU

5. Oregon

If I was to base my voting on the actual skill of the teams and ignoring whether a loss came in the first week of the season or this most recent week my top 5 would look like this.

1. LSU

2. Oklahoma

Going into Week 2 NCAA Top 10

1. USC 1-0

Any questions about this?

Next game: @ #20 Nebraska (September 15th)

2. LSU 1-0

They kicked off the 2007 NCAA College Football season and demolished their opponent.  Any time you hold a team to zero points it's impressive.  Add on the 45 points they put up and LSU keeps their #2 spot.  Tough game against Virginia Tech this week.

Next Game: #8 Virginia Tech

3. West Virginia 1-0

316 yards rushing and 542 yards of total offense ensured the victory for West Virginia.  Along with LSU holding Miss St. to no points, I think putting up 62 points (as WVU did) on a D-1A is very impressive.  The Heisman Candidate, Steve Slaton, put up 108 yards and 4 TD's.  The other candidate (Pat White) threw for 192 yards and had 4 total TD's (2 rush).  I like the Mountaineer's this year.

The Goods and Bads

The first week of the 2007 NCAA College Football Season was both good and bad for me.

The good was the fact that my Buckeyes won their first game against Youngstown State in the HorseShoe today.  The other good thing was Ohio State's rival, Michigan, lost at home to Appalachian State, a 1-AA school.

The bad was that overall most teams didn't play up to their ability.  There were a lot of teams that couldn't even beat the spread.  Here are the 5 teams that were a disappointment this week.
