A Comeback Within a Comeback

Last season the Boston Celtics finished with just twenty-four wins. They ended the season with a sub-.500 record for the second straight year, and the third time since the 2003-04 season. Paul Pierce was pondering a trade request, Doc Rivers was on the verge of being fired, and Danny Ainge was known as one of the worst GMs in the NBA.

They tried furiously to get Kevin Garnett from the Minnesota Timberwolves. It seemed that KG did not want to come to Boston and the Celtics were going to have another dreadful year. Then the draft rolled around. Greg Oden was selected first overall by the Portland Trailblazers, Kevin Durant was taken by the Seattle Supersonics, then a few picks later, the Celtics were up. Ainge worked out a trade sending the rights of this draft pick (Jeff Green), Wally Sczerbiak, and Delonte West in return for Seattle's second round pick, which became Glen "Big Baby" Davis, and Ray Allen, who was coming off ankle surgery.

The Boston Celtics: Heading to the Finals for the 20th Time

After defeating the Detroit Pistions by a margin of eight points, the final score was eighty-nine to eighty-one, the Celtics are ready to go to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1987. In this year's series for the championship, there is much intrigue between the teams. Those teams, as you know, are the Celtics and Lakers. There is history here and, hopefully, there will be a revival of a former rivalry.

The Celtics and Lakers have faced each other in the championship ten times before this year (in 1959 the Boston Celtics faced the Minneapolis Lakers). The Celtics emerged as NBA champions in eight of those ten series. That leaves the Lakers with two. However, those two were the two most recent times. The Lakers ahve dominated the Celtics recently and it has diminished the rivalry.

The Divine Comedy: Sports Edition

The Divine Comedy is a comedy written by Dante, it was written sometime between 1308 and 1321. It detailed Dante's journeys through Hell (Inferno), Purgatory (Purgatorio), and Heaven (Paradiso). In Hell he saw his enemies and he mocked them, then he goes to Purgatory, then to Heaven where he sees the people he loves. Here is my version of the Divine Comedy, but about sports. In this poem there were three line stanzas where the first and last lines would rhyme and the middle line would rhyme with the first and third of the next stanza.

Keith Rivers and Jerod Mayo

Keith Rivers and Jerod Mayo are both very similar players, in very different situations. They were drafted ninth and tenth overall in this year's NFL Draft. Rivers went ninth to the Cincinnati Bengals and Mayo went tenth to the New England Patriots. It's safe to say that Mayo is on a better team and in a better environment. Most would agree that it is also safe to say that Rivers is more athletic and has much more portential than Mayo. Let's take a look at their pasts:
