Early summer rants.....

Ahhh, summer is here!  Being a die-hard Cubs fan, Im very aware of what a June-swoon is, but this has just been a weird year.  I fully expect the Cubs to be fine in June and beyond, their pitching is staying strong, and their offense has been relentless folks.  As I said its just been a weird year, you know the last time the Cubs entered June with the best record in baseball?  1908!  Hmmm....  Everything just seems to be coming together, they are missing teams best pitchers, which I know they'll have to face in the playoffs but about 50% of a baseball season is luck, and we know how much "luck" the Cubs have had in oh about a hundred years.  With the Sox playing well how awesome would an all-Chicago world series be?  Mind boggling!

Never Ending Winter Rants....

What a long, cold, crappy winter its been!  Especially in the world of Chicago Sports.  This year with the Bulls playing like a D-League team, and the Illini waiting on a big recruiting class to come in somewhere around 2012, since we recruit 8th graders now, I've been watching the transaction list and spring training baseball more than any normal human should. So as I sit here trying to warm up from letting the dog out Im just going to get a few things thats been bothering me off my chest......  Friends, let me know if Im off course or if anyone else is sharing some of my frustrations!

Pitchers and catchers report in a month.....

I love the Chicago Bears and the game of football, but my first love will always be the Chicago Cubs and the game of baseball.  My first game in person was on September 7, 1986, a game I will never forget until the day I die. I was 5 years old and will never forget until that point of watching games on WGN with my grandpa. It was he and my grandma that took me to my first game.  Wrigley was more beautiful than I could imagine even after seeing it on TV so many times, the green grass, the ivy, the huge scoreboard, the people sitting on the rooftops across the streets.  I was very excited because gramps got great seats, we were about 5 rows up from 3rd base which excited me very much because it guarnteed a great view of my two favorite players, Shawn Dunston and Ryne Sandberg.

Halas Hall Hangover.....

Thats what it feels like, after the last 2 games watching the Bears play like they should have all year, it has takin me this long to even want to talk about them again!  First off, I was at the Saints game and Devin Hester is worth the price of admission! I say hand the man a blank check.  It is astounding what hes accomplished in 2 years and he is a very valuable tool in just the return game.  They dont want to kick to him? Fine, great field position.  They do kick to him? Anything can happen.

Winter Thinking

With the Bears in dissaray, and it getting colder outside, its got me thinking a lot about the Bulls lately.  There has been plenty of talk lately especially locally concerning Kobe Bryant.  From what Ive gathered its all a bunch of talk, and if I had my guess it consisted of John Paxson calling, Jerry Buss stating his demands for Kobe, and John Paxson hanging up.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see Kobe in a Bulls uniform but at what price?  Ben Gordon, Luol Deng, and Kirk Heinrich is too much.  In my world Deng is going to be a superstar and I believe the Bulls (although it wasn't Paxson) recently made a mistake in dealing a superstar before he fully developed, even though he was still pretty good as a young player, can you say Elton Brand?  How good would the Bulls of the last couple of years look like this:  Heinrich, Gordon, Deng. Brand, and Wallace?  Sounds good to me.
